  • Monitor developments in reinsurance law and ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Transactional Support:
  • Collaborate with business units on structuring and implementing reinsurance transactions including fronting arrangements, strategic managing general agent partnerships, and retrocessionaire agreements.

Claims and Dispute Resolution:
  • Assist in managing reinsurance claims and disputes, including arbitration, and litigation support.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with business units and the finance team to provide practical legal advice.
  • Support corporate initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • Able to pivot and take on new responsibilities in other business units as needed.
  • Partner with business units, such as the Commercial Equipment and Passenger Vehicle teams, to ensure timely and efficient execution of a broad range of corporate and insurance legal tasks.
  • Undertake special projects dependent upon knowledge and experience.
  • Apply consistent legal terms and protections companywide.

What We're Looking For:
  • Law degree from a nationally accredited law school.
  • 8-10 years of legal experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized law firm and/or legal experience in property and casualty reinsurance.
  • Prior property and casualty industry work experiences relevant to ensure success as an integral team member of a nimble in-house legal department at a sophisticated and successful specialty (re)insurance company.

Skills:
  • Excellent analytical skills and sound judgment, with a business focused approach.
  • Superior written and verbal communication with strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to use time efficiently and coordinate efforts effectively.
  • Solid contract drafting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively partner with and influence positive outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Key Competencies:
  • Strong work ethic, intellectual capability, and drive to achieve.
  • Excellent relationship building, partnership and collaboration skills.
  • Well-developed discipline in working efficiently, meeting deadlines and achieving results, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong strategic capability including development and articulation of the rationale for complex business transactions.
