Position Summary:

The Senior Managing Attorney is a senior client-facing legal and operational leader responsible for delivering high-quality services across the litigation lifecycle for corporations and law firms. This role is multifaceted and involves project management, substantive legal analysis, team leadership. The Senior Managing Attorney serves as a trusted advisor to clients and case teams, a primary escalation point for Epiq associates and lead attorneys, and a key partner to program leadership in delivering consistent, defensible, efficient, and technology-enabled legal work product.

The Senior Managing Attorney must have a strong understanding of the litigation lifecycle, the Electronic Discovery Reference Model, and the technologies used to increase efficiency, reduce costs, identify key facts and case themes, and deliver exceptional service. The role requires the ability to manage multiple active matters, support advisory engagements such as deposition preparation and fact development, consult on workflow design and technology, including agentic AI solutions, and oversee attorney performance and work product,. The Senior Managing Attorney will represent the mission, vision, and values of Epiq and will demonstrate leadership, technical fluency, sound judgment, empathy, and professionalism across all spheres of the business, including as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior point of contact and trusted advisor for clients, counsel, program leadership, and the program attorney teams across active matters, advisory engagements, and program initiatives.
  • Lead, scope, and execute program engagements for litigation, investigations, discovery-related workflows including deposition preparation, fact development, witness preparation support, second level review, and other legal analysis workstreams.
  • Serve as a primary escalation point for program attorneys including Lead Attorneys, Associate Managing Attorneys, and Managing Attorneys, and substantive legal issues, workflow questions, technology needs, performance concerns, and client communications.
  • Consult with clients and case teams on the design, development, and implementation of efficient and defensible workflows, including review protocols, escalation procedures, training guidelines, quality control plans, and reporting structures.
  • Manage client expectations regarding deliverables, timelines, budgets, staffing, productivity, quality, and changes in scope, and communicate project status and performance to stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Oversee the execution of discovery-related workflows including deposition preparation and advisory workflows, including identification of key documents, development of witness-specific materials, fact chronologies, issue outlines, key document summaries, timelines, and written memoranda.
  • Implement and supervise workflows within document review and litigation technology platforms, including batch sets, fields, choices, layouts, views, rules, security, persistent highlighting, search term reports, analytics, and other matter-specific configurations.
  • Leverage structured analytics, conceptual analytics, artificial intelligence, technology-assisted review, email threading, near-duplicate identification, clustering, advanced search techniques, statistical sampling, and custom scripts to improve accuracy, consistency, productivity, and defensibility.
  • Oversee quality control and quality assurance processes, including calibration exercises, sampling, issue escalation, query logs, reviewer feedback loops, and validation of production or disclosure sets.
  • Monitor and report on matter progress, attorney productivity, accuracy, budget performance, training completion, and individual or team performance, including daily or weekly reporting as appropriate.
  • Lead, mentor, motivate, and provide substantive feedback to program attorney teams, including Lead Attorneys and other attorney team members, to promote consistent performance, professional development, and high-quality work product.
  • Oversee or support onboarding, offboarding, attorney readiness, placement candidate assignments, requisition processes, assignment end forms, and related coordination with recruiting, client services, continuous improvement, and third-party providers.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve the Attorney Bench onboarding, Lead Attorney training, team training, assessment processes, remediation resources, and scalable program infrastructure that promotes consistency across matters.
  • Collaborate with program leadership, Continuous Improvement, Client Services, operations, recruiting, and technology teams to identify recurring needs, create training resources, standardize best practices, and convert matter-level lessons learned into repeatable program improvements.
  • Assist with time entry oversight, invoice review, project wrap-up, performance documentation, and other administrative or operational needs that support accurate billing, budget management, and matter closeout.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree and valid, active state bar association admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Legal qualification and litigation practice experience in at least one jurisdiction required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of eDiscovery, litigation support, legal project management, managed review, or comparable legal services experience; law firm, corporate legal department, or managed review vendor experience preferred.
  • Significant experience with the litigation lifecycle, including discovery, document review, second level review, deposition preparation, fact development, motion support, witness preparation, trial preparation, and related case analysis tasks.
  • Strong understanding of the concepts, principles, management, processing, review, analysis, and production of electronically stored information (ESI) as they relate to legal matters.
  • Extensive experience with eDiscovery, including Relativity or comparable tools.
  • Experience with developing and implementing workflows that leverage structured analytics (email threading and near duplicate information), conceptual analytics, active learning, and AI.
  • Excellent ability to search and analyze data to uncover facts that can be leveraged by the case team to create a more effective strategy and build the evidence required to achieve a successful outcome
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex matters or workstreams simultaneously while balancing client service, attorney team management, quality control, budget performance, and operational priorities.
  • Experience designing workflows, drafting protocols, creating training materials, leading attorney teams, assessing performance, and implementing scalable processes that promote consistency and quality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, reporting, and basic formatting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including experience leading client calls, internal team meetings, training sessions, and substantive legal or workflow discussions.
  • Excellent issue spotting, judgment, problem-solving, organizational, collaboration, and personnel management skills, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to exceeding client expectations.

The Compensation range for this role is 120,000 to 130,000 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus.
