What You Will Be Doing

The Business Development Manager is responsible for automation solution sales in an assigned territory. This is a field sales role focused on the Austin, TX market and the greater South US. You'll be targeting Water/Wastewater, Food amp; Beverage, and General Manufacturing, industries where our solutions make a real impact.

This role requires lead generation, new business development, and account management activities. You'll identify key industries, companies, and contacts to develop sales opportunities, create technical sales proposals, and close deals. You'll rely on our technical team to develop the overall solution that wins the business, your job is to open doors and build relationships.

  • Identify and qualify new sales opportunities within target markets.
  • Manage and grow existing Vertech account relationships.
  • Obtain a clear understanding of the client's objectives and expectations.
  • Architect big-picture solutions with support from the technical team.
  • Negotiate scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Work with Vertech's estimating and technical teams to develop an approach and budget for projects.
  • Write articulate, professional proposals clearly defining Vertech's scope of work.
  • Present proposals to clients and attend client meetings as required.
  • Hand off projects to engineering and follow up during and after to gauge client satisfaction.
  • Manage and attend trade show marketing efforts.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current technology including major vendor PLC and HMI platforms.
What You Need for this Position
  • BS degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Approximately 5 or more years of industrial automation experience (proven expertise is more important than number of years).
  • 2 or more years of technical sales experience, preferably selling solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of industrial automation system architectures including SCADA and MES.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater, Food amp; Beverage, or General Manufacturing markets preferred.
  • Excellent writing, document composition, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an outgoing personality.
  • Proven ability to prospect new accounts and build client relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a hunter mentality.
  • Effective time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 20% of the time) to customer sites as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
