We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lead Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering remote in New Jersey. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:

  • Lead the design and engineering of high voltage substations (up to 500kV), including physical layout, protection & control, grounding, and equipment specifications
  • Serve as the technical authority for substation engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality
  • Oversee and mentor a team of engineers and designers; provide technical guidance and review work products
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, bill of materials, and technical documentation
  • Support field activities, including site assessments, commissioning support, and issue resolution
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC), utility requirements, and company engineering practices
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource planning for assigned engineering tasks
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required); PE license strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of substation engineering experience, including leadership or lead engineer responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of high voltage substation design, protection & control, and applicable industry standards
  • Experience working with utilities, EPC firms, or large scale power delivery projects
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, or similar tools
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to travel for site visits and attend the designated office one day per week

Pay Range $130,000 – 150,000:
