Job description

Overview
We're seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support and enhance our global IT infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud environments. This role will lead key functions including Windows and Linux administration, SAN management, and cloud infrastructure.
In this role you will monitor and optimize system performance, maintain disaster recovery readiness, ensure compliance, and contribute to complex, cross-functional global initiatives. If you bring deep technical expertise and a commitment to operational excellence, we'd love to have you on our team.
This role is hybrid, and based in our Niles, IL location.
Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain a robust, global IT infrastructure utilizing deep expertise in both Windows and Linux servers, database servers, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure). Focus on optimizing system performance, scalability, and security across all platforms.
  • Manage and optimize virtualization platforms, demonstrating advanced proficiency in VMware as well as practical experience with alternatives like Proxmox. Ensure reliable and efficient operation of virtual environments, including hands-on automation using tools such as Python and PowerShell.
  • Collaborate proactively with stakeholders across all organizational levels to interpret business requirements and implement infrastructure solutions. Support complex, cross-functional projects on a global scale while ensuring effective communication and leadership within technical teams.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, execute disaster recovery procedures, and manage compliance and risk mitigation to protect mission-critical systems and uphold regulatory standards.
  • Guide, mentor, and support the infrastructure operations team, promoting collaboration, skill development, and adherence to established best practices across global sites. Provide strong leadership and foster technical excellence within the team by establishing, documenting, and enforcing clear operational and configuration standards. Ensure junior system administrators are equipped with up-to-date documentation and standardized procedures for system settings, configurations, and routine tasks, enabling consistent and reliable operations throughout the organization.
  • Deliver rapid and effective outage support in production and manufacturing environments, including incident response, root cause analysis, and coordinated recovery efforts to minimize downtime and support business continuity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement preventive actions and enhance system reliability.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience administering and maintaining global IT infrastructure in both on-premises and cloud environments
  • At least 4 years' advanced proficiency with Windows and Linux systems administration
  • 3+ years of hands-on SAN (Storage Area Network) management experience
  • 2+ years implementing and supporting cloud infrastructure.
  • 3+ years working with and advanced skills in network, server, and virtualization technologies, with expertise in VMware. Experience with VMware alternatives such as Proxmox a plus
  • 2+ years proven experience automating tasks using Python and PowerShell
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance, with at least 3 years in similar roles
  • 2+ years executing disaster recovery procedures and ensuring compliance
  • Experience supporting complex, cross-functional global projects for 3 years or more
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills, ideally with 3+ years guiding technical teams and collaborating with stakeholders
  • Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PMP, RHCE, VCP, or vendor-specific credentials (preferred)

PAY TRANSPARENCY
Shure offers a competitive compensation structure that is reviewed annually to attract, hire, and retain the industry's top talent. Base salaries vary based on qualifications, geography, experience, and expertise in each respective discipline. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base salary for the opportunity. The base salary for this position ranges from $99,000 to $158,400 with a midpoint target. If your salary expectations do not align, still apply as we are often flexible on the seniority of posted positions. All positions also include an award-winning benefits package.
