Systems Engineer

Overview:

Business System Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (non-supervisory) to work for a Federal client in Washington, D.C. Services may be performed remotely or on-site, as determined by the government/client. Occasional in-person meetings or site visits may be required with reasonable notice. The Systems Engineer is responsible for offering expert IT advisory services focused on infrastructure design, system optimization, and strategic technology guidance. This role integrates advanced knowledge of IT infrastructure with consultative skills to guide technology strategy and implementation across the client space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and project managers to gather and validate technical information.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into simple, easy-to-understand language for non-technical audiences.
  • Organize and present information logically to enhance clarity, comprehension, and usability.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with project requirements, style standards, and organizational guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability with documentation and productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Visio).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated ability with documenting IT infrastructure, including but not limited to:
    • Network Topologies
    • Server and Cloud Environments
    • Security Controls
    • Data Storage and Backup Systems
    • Application Architecture
    • System Configurations and Integrations

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to provide advisory and subject matter expertise in:
