Position: Disability Claims & Underwriting Specialist
Type: Contract
Compensation: $800/hour
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Design realistic scenarios involving short- and long-term disability claims, elimination periods, and claim duration management.
  • Create work products such as claim determinations, benefit calculations, and return-to-work plans.
  • Write "golden" reference responses at experienced disability-professional quality.
  • Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics for accuracy and fairness.
  • Identify misapplied definitions, unsupported conclusions, and incorrect benefit math.
  • Provide written feedback to improve model behavior.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • 2+ years of professional experience in disability claims adjudication or related fields.
  • Experience with group or individual disability programs.
  • Understanding of contract definitions, elimination periods, and benefit periods.
  • Ability to weigh evidence and articulate defensible determinations.
  • Excellent written analysis and attention to detail.
  • Ability to distinguish claim adjudication from clinical decisions and legal advice.

Preferred

  • CRC, CDMS, CCM, CPDM, RN, or comparable credentials.
  • Experience with ERISA records, appeals, or litigation support.
  • Experience with Social Security or workers compensation offset coordination.
  • Familiarity with FMLA, state leave programs, or ADA accommodation interaction.
