Overview

UMIAQ Environmental is seeking a Logistics Specialist to join our team in Anchorage. In this role you will be a key driver of efficient and timely movement of goods, materials, and resources across Alaska. You will be responsibile for planning, coordinating, and overseeing logistics operations that support diverse projects in remote and urban locations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a dynamic environment with complex supply chain challenges. This position demands strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively in field and office settings.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Coordinate statewide logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, and distribution of materials to multiple sites across Alaska.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for shipments and deliveries, ensuring compliance with timelines and budget constraints.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for freight, air cargo, and ground transportation services.
  • Track inventory and shipments using logistics software and maintain accurate records for reporting and auditing purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to transportation and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (operations, procurement, and project managers) to align logistics plans with project requirements.
  • Problem-solve logistical challenges related to weather, remote access, and seasonal constraints.
  • Prepare reports and analyze data to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in logistics coordination, preferably in Alaska or similar remote environments.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation modes (air, sea, and ground) and regional logistics challenges.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, ArcGIS, AutoCAD

  • Travel and year-round field work, with working hours more than 40 per week and weekends as needed.

  • Experience with cold-weather and remote site logistics.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and hazardous materials handling.
  • Knowledge of Alaska geography and seasonal transportation constraints.
  • Based in Anchorage with occasional travel to remote sites across Alaska.
  • Requires flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and conditions.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver license and insurable driving record.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training

Physical and Mental Demands:
