What is a remote DevOps engineer?

A Remote DevOps engineer is a professional who works from a remote location to manage and automate an organization's IT infrastructure, development, and deployment processes. Their main goal is to bridge the gap between software development and IT operations, ensuring that software can be released quickly, reliably, and efficiently. Remote DevOps engineers use tools like CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and cloud platforms to streamline workflows and improve system reliability. They collaborate with development and operations teams using online communication and project management tools.

How do remote DevOps professionals typically collaborate with development and operations teams across different time zones?

Remote DevOps professionals often use a combination of collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom to stay connected with development and operations teams. They rely heavily on clear documentation, version control systems, and automated workflows to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent processes across time zones. Regular stand-up meetings, asynchronous communication, and shared dashboards help maintain alignment on priorities and progress, making it possible to address incidents and deploy updates efficiently despite geographical differences.

Addison Group is seeking a AWS/DevOps Engineer to help administer our client's AWS infrastructure, support CI/CD delivery pipelines, and maintain up-to-date systems documentation. This role plays a key part in keeping the cloud environment secure, reliable, and running smoothly.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a small, collaborative team environment, someone hands-on, adaptable, and genuinely willing to pitch in across a variety of tasks rather than staying narrowly within one lane. The right personality fit is just as important to us as technical skill.

This position is fully remote, provided the candidate resides in one of our eligible states (listed).

Job Description:

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

·      Design, deploy, and maintain AWS-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices.

·      Administer and optimize core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, and related services.

·      Implement security best practices for cloud environments in partnership with IT Security.

·      Monitor system health, performance, availability, and costs; proactively address reliability risks.

·      Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for systems owned by the role.

DevOps & CI/CD Enablement

·      Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as GitLab CI or Azure DevOps.

·      Partner with development teams to standardize build, deployment, and release workflows.

·      Improve deployment safety through automation, testing, validation, and rollback mechanisms.

·      Integrate security scanning, secrets management, and compliance controls into pipelines.

Operational Resilience & Documentation

·      Document architectures, pipelines, operational procedures, and automation clearly and accurately.

·      Produce and maintain “as-built” and “as-operated” documentation to support IT Operations.

Collaboration & Support

·      Serve as a technical partner to Application Development, Web Development, and IT Operations teams.

·      Provide tiered operational support and troubleshooting for cloud and deployment platforms.

·      Participate in infrastructure and platform initiatives aligned with AAAS technology strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

·      Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·      Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, cloud engineering, or DevOps roles.

·      Hands-on experience operating production workloads in AWS or Azure environments

·      Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent).

·      Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automation practices

·      Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis.

·      Ability to work independently with defined objectives and broad technical latitude.

·      Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.

·      Ability to collaborate across teams without formal authority.

·      Discipline in documentation, change management, and following established standards.
