This allows for flexible work hours and the opportunity to work with companies and clients from around the world. Common roles in remote design include graphic design, UX/UI design, web design, and more. Remote design jobs require strong communication skills, self-motivation, and proficiency with design software.

What are the qualifications to get a remote design job?

The qualifications that you need to obtain a remote design job vary, depending on the industry in which you work. Most remote designers start their careers with an in-house position to gain industry experience and build a substantial portfolio of past projects to showcase their work to prospective employers or clients. A graphic design professional can pursue a degree in graphic design, while most employers expect architectural designers to have a bachelor’s degree in architecture and experience with CAD software. Landscape designers need a degree in landscape design or landscape architecture. Educational and work qualifications differ based on the position and company, so make sure to research specific requirements in your job search.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote designer, and why are they important?

Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or Sketch, and experience with collaborative platforms like Slack and Trello are essential. These skills ensure high-quality, on-time design work and seamless integration with remote teams.

Remote design teams often use a combination of digital tools and clear communication practices to collaborate efficiently, even when team members are spread across various time zones. Tools like Figma, Slack, and Zoom are commonly used for real-time design sharing, feedback, and meetings. What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead the end-to-end design experience across Nanit's hardware-software ecosystem, ensuring cohesion across the app, device, and subscription touchpoints as the product line expands
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles throughout the product development lifecycle, from ideation to execution, ensuring that user needs and preferences are prioritized
  • Lead the design of mobile applications, ensuring intuitive and seamless user experiences across iOS and Android platforms
  • Partner closely with the Product Team to design the subscription experience - feature gating, upgrade flows, onboarding, and long-term retention
  • Contribute to product design strategy at the leadership level - bringing a comprehensive design system and perspective to roadmap decisions and new category development
  • Scale and maintain a mature design system that ensures consistency, speed, and quality as Nanit grows its product surface area
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive design culture, facilitating cross-functional collaboration and effectively communicating design concepts and rationale
  • Lead and grow a team of product designers, establishing a strong design culture, clear craft standards, and a high-performance environment
  • Stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in product design, continuously seeking opportunities to innovate and improve.

Who You Are:
  • 10+ years of Product Design experience, with at least 3 years of leadership design experience in related consumer tech companies
  • Experience with IoT technology and designing for connected devices is highly desirable
  • Deep expertise in mobile design (iOS and Android) with a portfolio that demonstrates sophisticated interaction design
  • Experience designing subscription based products, with a deep understanding of how design impacts conversion, retention and LTV
  • Proven experience leading and managing a team of designers, with a track record of delivering high-quality designs on schedule while fostering AI fluency and experimentation within design teams
  • Expertise in mobile design principles and best practices, with proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD
  • Demonstrated AI fluency, including understanding AI-assisted product experiences, and identifying opportunities where AI can meaningfully improve user outcomes
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate design concepts and rationale to cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus
  • Passion for improving the lives of parents and babies through innovative design solutions

Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Hybrid in office schedule
  • Remote work from home month in August
  • Flexible PTO (we trust you to take the time you need)
  • Equity options so you can share in our growth
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents
  • Employee discounts on Nanit products
  • Work from home stipend
  • Monthly team events
