What is a remote design verification engineer?

Remote Design Verification Engineers are professionals who work from a remote location to ensure that hardware designs, such as integrated circuits or systems on a chip (SoC), function correctly according to their specifications. They use simulation and verification tools to test digital designs, identify bugs, and work closely with design teams to resolve issues. Their responsibilities often include writing test benches, developing verification plans, and automating tests to improve efficiency. This role requires a strong background in hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, as well as experience with verification methodologies such as UVM or SystemVerilog.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote design verification engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Design Verification Engineer, you need a solid background in digital design, verification methodologies (such as UVM or SystemVerilog), and a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in simulation tools (like VCS or ModelSim), scripting languages (Python or Perl), and version control systems is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are crucial for effective collaboration in a remote environment. These competencies ensure accurate verification, efficient workflow, and high-quality deliverables in complex hardware development projects.

What are some common challenges faced by remote design verification engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Design Verification Engineers often encounter challenges related to communication and collaboration, especially when working with global teams across different time zones. Maintaining clear and frequent communication through project management tools and regular video meetings is essential. Additionally, ensuring access to secure and reliable simulation environments can be a hurdle, so familiarity with remote access protocols and cloud-based verification tools is beneficial. Proactively documenting verification processes and results also helps keep everyone aligned and facilitates smoother project progress.

Job description

About Company:

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC is a professional consulting firm specializing in construction inspection and compliance services for public infrastructure projects. Our core services include on-site inspection of roadway, bridge, and utility construction to ensure adherence to engineering specifications, safety standards, and contract requirements. We support clients with daily reporting, materials testing coordination, schedule tracking, and quality assurance oversight. Additional services include project management, grants management for federally funded infrastructure and disaster recovery programs.

About the Role:

The Landscape Architect will support the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) READI contract by providing landscape and site restoration design services for emergency response, disaster recovery, infrastructure restoration, and resiliency projects. This role provides professional expertise in site planning, landscape design, ecological restoration, erosion control, and sustainable land development to support the recovery and rehabilitation of damaged public infrastructure and facilities.

The Landscape Architect will develop site restoration plans, landscape designs, and construction documentation that address environmental stewardship, resilience, accessibility, and operational requirements. The position requires close collaboration with engineers, environmental professionals, planners, architects, contractors, and government stakeholders to develop integrated solutions that restore and enhance sites affected by natural disasters and emergency events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Landscape Architect in the United States.
  • Professional experience in landscape architecture, site planning, land development, or environmental restoration projects.
  • Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, GIS applications, or comparable landscape design and drafting software.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape design principles, site restoration techniques, land use planning, grading and drainage concepts, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing landscape plans, construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and federal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Environmental Planning, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting USACE, FEMA, National Park Service, DOT, or other federal infrastructure and recovery programs.
  • Experience with ecological restoration, habitat restoration, shoreline stabilization, erosion control, or resilient landscape design.
  • Familiarity with federal environmental regulations, permitting processes, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Design-Build projects and post-disaster recovery programs.
  • Project management experience supporting multidisciplinary planning, design, or restoration efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide landscape and site restoration design services supporting emergency response, disaster recovery, and infrastructure restoration projects.
  • Develop site plans, landscape restoration plans, grading concepts, planting plans, and construction documentation in accordance with project requirements and federal standards.
  • Conduct site assessments, field investigations, and feasibility evaluations to support restoration and recovery planning activities.
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and project documentation supporting site rehabilitation efforts.
  • Coordinate with engineers, environmental specialists, planners, architects, contractors, and government representatives to develop integrated and sustainable site solutions.
  • Support erosion control, stormwater management, revegetation, habitat restoration, and environmental mitigation initiatives associated with recovery projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, accessibility requirements, land use criteria, and federal design standards.
  • Review contractor submittals, construction activities, and restoration work to verify compliance with approved design documents and project objectives.
  • Participate in field inspections, emergency response support activities, and post-disaster site evaluations as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of sustainable design practices, ecological restoration methods, and resiliency planning principles applicable to federal recovery operations.

Skills:

The ideal candidate must possess strong expertise in landscape architecture, site planning, and environmental restoration to support recovery and resiliency projects following disasters and emergency events. Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, GIS applications, and related design software is essential for developing site plans, restoration designs, construction documentation, and visual presentations. A thorough understanding of landscape design principles, grading and drainage concepts, land use planning, erosion control, habitat restoration, and sustainable site development is critical for creating practical and environmentally responsible solutions. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate site conditions, assess restoration needs, and develop effective design strategies. Experience preparing technical reports, construction drawings, permit documentation, and project submittals is essential for supporting regulatory compliance and project execution. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and federal stakeholders. The ability to adapt to dynamic recovery environments and support field investigations, site assessments, and restoration activities is essential for successful performance under the USACE READI contract.
