Job Description

AECOM is hiring for a Transmission Designer, Power Delivery with a primary focus on overhead and underground transmission line projects to support our growing Energy Business Line.

For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

Our team provides engineering and design services for transmission infrastructure projects including new line installations, line rebuilds, upgrades, relocations, interconnections, and grid modernization initiatives. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a strong transmission design background to support project execution from concept development through detailed design and construction support. Qualified candidates will be expected to perform technical design work, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and support project managers in meeting quality, budget, and schedule objectives.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop overhead and underground transmission line designs ranging from 69kV through 500kV and higher.
  • Perform line routing evaluations, structure spotting, and transmission line layout development.
  • Prepare engineering and construction packages, including plan and profile drawings, staking sheets, framing drawings, and material lists.
  • Coordinate survey, LiDAR, geotechnical, environmental, and right-of-way data to support project development.
  • Utilize PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and related design software to develop transmission line deliverables.
  • Review engineering criteria, client standards, NESC requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements during design development.
  • Coordinate closely with civil, structural, substation, environmental, permitting, and project management teams.
  • Interface with clients, utilities, contractors, and technical stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Support constructability reviews and provide technical support during construction and commissioning activities.
  • Identify design risks and propose practical engineering solutions to support project objectives.
  • Assist with preparation of task estimates, schedules, and proposal efforts.
  • Support field reviews, site visits, and walkdowns as required.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with peers, project teams, and clients.
  • Occasional travel required to client sites and other AECOM offices.
  • Able to participate in field walks, collect field information, take measurements, and work safely in outdoor environments as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field and 4 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience supporting electric utility transmission line projects.
  • Proficiency with transmission line design software such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Working knowledge of transmission line design standards, utility practices, and NESC requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, survey information, and technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of transmission line design experience.
  • Experience designing transmission facilities from 69kV through 500kV.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
  • Experience supporting EPC, design-build, or utility capital projects.
  • Familiarity with utility and regional transmission owner standards.
  • Experience coordinating with survey, environmental, permitting, and right-of-way teams.
  • Self-motivated with strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Success in working with remote and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience supporting renewable energy interconnections and grid expansion projects.
  • Experience with brownfield and greenfield transmission projects.
