Duties
Help

• Perform full dental examinations, including oral cancer screenings.
• Take and interpret radiographs using multiple modalities; distinguish diagnostic from non-diagnostic images.
• Treatment Areas; oral medicine , restorative and preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral pathology, minor oral surgery, minor periodontics, refer patients to specialists when treatment exceeds scope of practice.
• Skilled use of dental handpieces and standard dental armamentarium.
• Knowledgeable in current dental materials
• Make accurate impressions for models and prostheses, including dentures.
• Correct minor occlusal discrepancies.
• Ability to lift or maneuver up to 40 lbs during patient or equipment positioning.
• Perform fillings, crowns, fixed partial dentures, space maintenance appliances, removable partial dentures.
• Restore carious lesions; perform pulpectomy, pulpotomy, and endodontic therapy.
• Utilize digital dentistry equipment.
• Conduct oral health assessments and X-rays.
• Provide cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
• Administer prophylaxis, deep scaling, root planing.
• Prescribe medications and fluoride.
• Diagnose caries, periapical pathology, periodontal disease, and oral/perioral lesions.
• Prescribe appropriate medications.
• Treat routine TMJ dysfunction and mild to moderate cellulitis.
• Perform simple extractions (exodontia).
• Conduct minor gingival procedures (gingivoplasty, fiberotomy, mini-flap).

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18)years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice):
Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience and/or Education Required:
Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science, AND one year of full-time experience and/or training in professional dentistry work equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).
OR
Applicants must have four years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).
OR
Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than four years.
Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
Medical Requirement:Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
Education
