What is remote dental insurance billing?

Remote dental insurance billing is the process of handling dental claims, payments, and insurance verifications from a location outside the dental office, such as from home or a separate office. Professionals in this field communicate with dental offices, patients, and insurance companies to ensure claims are processed accurately and efficiently. They use specialized dental billing software to submit claims electronically, follow up on unpaid claims, and resolve discrepancies. This remote setup allows dental practices to outsource billing tasks, improving efficiency and allowing dental staff to focus on patient care.

How does a remote dental insurance billing specialist collaborate with dental office teams to ensure accurate claims processing?

As a Remote Dental Insurance Billing specialist, you will regularly communicate with dental office staff—such as front desk coordinators, dental assistants, and office managers—primarily via phone, email, and secure messaging platforms. Collaboration involves verifying patient insurance information, clarifying treatment details, and resolving claim discrepancies. While you may work independently from home, effective teamwork and clear communication are essential to ensure claims are submitted accurately and in a timely manner, minimizing denials and maximizing reimbursement for the practice.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote dental insurance billing specialist?

To excel as a Remote Dental Insurance Billing Specialist, you need a thorough understanding of dental coding, insurance claim procedures, and billing regulations, often supported by experience in dental office administration or a relevant certification. Familiarity with dental practice management software, electronic claims systems, and insurance portals is crucial. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and clear written communication set top performers apart in this role. These competencies ensure accurate claims processing, reduced denials, and efficient revenue cycle management for dental practices.

Job description

Remote Dental Billing Specialist

Company Overview

Dental Claim Support (DCS) is a specialized dental revenue cycle management company serving dentists, private practices, and DSOs across the United States. We empower dental teams by combining highly trained RCM experts with a proven technology framework to maximize profitability and support practice growth.

Our systems and processes allow our team to work the full dental revenue cycle efficiently and accurately, helping clients increase collections, reduce aging, and gain confidence in their insurance billing.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented, technically strong Remote Dental Billing Specialist to join our Private Practice Insurance Billing business unit. In this role, you will be a key contributor to our clients’ success by managing the insurance billing lifecycle—from clean claim submission through accurate payment posting and follow-up.

You will work from home as an independent contractor (1099, commission-based) with the potential to transition into a W-2 position. This is a strong career move for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in dental RCM, own measurable outcomes (accuracy, collections, retention), and play a key role in a rapidly growing company.

What You'll Do
  • Manage the full dental revenue cycle for assigned practices, including accurate insurance payment posting, adjustments, and coordination of benefits in line with industry standards and policies.
  • Prepare and submit clean claims daily, resolve rejections and denials promptly, and work aging reports to reduce outstanding insurance balances and increase collections.
  • Use dental practice management software (server or cloud-based), payer portals, and clearinghouses to post EFTs, submit claims, and maximize claim payments while maintaining data integrity.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of CDT coding, insurance verification breakdowns, radiographs, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure compliant, accurate billing and documentation.
  • Partner closely with Account Managers, clients, and vendors to solve revenue cycle issues, improve processes, and provide responsive, professional client service in a remote environment.
What Success Looks Like
  • Maintain a client retention rate of 90% or higher and consistently positive feedback (NPS of 8+ for your book of business) by delivering reliable, proactive billing support.
  • Contribute to revenue targets that reflect an ROI of 67% for your assigned clients through effective claim submission, follow-up, and payment posting.
  • Achieve and sustain at least 98% accuracy in payment posting and adjustments, demonstrated through internal quality checks and audits.
  • Maintain an overall audit score of 90% or higher while meeting deadlines, keeping aging under control, and communicating clearly with clients and internal teams.
What We're Looking For
  • At least 2 years of hands-on dental insurance billing experience, with strong knowledge of dental terminology and effective revenue cycle management techniques.
  • Comfort working in dental practice management software and standard office tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook; Google Drive a plus), with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Organized, detail-focused professional who communicates clearly, manages multiple priorities, and maintains high accuracy under deadlines.
  • Team-oriented, growth-minded individual who takes ownership, solves problems proactively, and is committed to professional excellence and client success.
Compensation and Benefits
  • 1099 – Independent Contractor, based on commission, with the opportunity to transition to W-2 status.
  • Remote / work-from-home with a flexible work schedule and a culture of learning.
  • Once eligible for W-2 status: health, vision, and dental coverage; company-matched 401(k); company-provided equipment; and paid time off.
  • Opportunity to play a key role in a rapidly growing company that values customer success, transparency, reliability, professional excellence, and alignment.
How to Apply

If you have solid dental insurance billing experience and want to grow your career in a remote, high-accountability environment, please submit your resume and a brief note describing your dental billing background and practice management systems you have used.
