Criminal Defense Trial Lawyer

Cowboy Country Law

Casper, WY • Remote

$180K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 22 days ago

Job description

Bullies suck. Our law firm exists to do something about it.

If you smell what we're stepping in, keep reading.

Are you a relentless, client-obsessed trial lawyer who lives for the fight? Cowboy Country Law is searching for a skilled criminal defense attorney ready to saddle up, dig in, and do work that actually matters. If you're sharp under pressure, thrive in the courtroom, and get fired up about helping real people protect their freedom — we want to talk.

We're a fast-growing criminal defense firm with a robust caseload spanning every corner of Wyoming. We're looking for the right lawyer to join us in Casper, Cheyenne, or anywhere in the state — remote-friendly for the right fit. This isn't a clock-in-clock-out gig (you will have a full caseload). This is a genuine opportunity to build something, provide advocacy that makes a real difference, and get paid well for doing it.

We believe in investing in the people who invest in us. That means supporting your growth professionally, personally, and financially — and making sure the compensation reflects the contribution. If you help us push forward, we'll make it worth your while.

You'll have legal assistant and paralegal support, along with a very robust tech-stack, but you need to be comfortable owning your caseload from entry of appearance to verdict, show up ready in the courtroom (trial experience preferred), and bring real passion for criminal defense work from DWUIs to serious felonies. Finally, we're true believers — you should be passionate about helping clients find justice and protect their freedom, and also excited by the personal and professional opportunities that come from working for a busy, fast-moving law firm.

Compensation: $180,000+ | Health Benefits | Performance Bonuses

Compensation:

$180,000+

Responsibilities:

What You’re Gonna Get Up To

  • This isn’t your average attorney gig; it’s about stepping into the courtroom and changing lives with your legal prowess. Here’s the rundown:

Chart Your Own Path

  • You’ll report directly to the firm owner, with plenty of opportunities to brainstorm, collaborate, and be mentored, but you’ll also thrive on working independently. Flexibility is yours; you control your schedule, where you work, and how you get the job done.

Strategize Like a Pro

  • You’ll creatively map out case strategies and delegate tasks to our legal team, explaining the “what” and the “why” so each matter cruises through our pipeline without sacrificing quality. When everyone’s aligned, we all win, and yes, that means you share in the rewards.

Ride with an Awesome Crew

  • If you join us, you’ll work alongside a team of amazing people who hustle hard, aim for flawless execution, and take real pride in the work we do. We’re all in this fight together.

Stay Hungry

  • We’re trial lawyers to the core. Expect to read, learn, and master new techniques so you can keep sharpening your courtroom edge. We’ll hook you up with mentorship and training—you bring ambition and curiosity.

Own the Courtroom

You need to be comfortable doing this stuff:

  • Investigate criminal cases and provide legal advice to prospective clients.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, clients, opposing counsel, law enforcement, and experts.
  • Consistently document case status in the firm’s case management system.
  • Research case law, statutes, rules, and forensic science.
  • Draft, review, and edit motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
  • Attend scheduled court hearings and argue motions.
  • Cross-examine or depose experts, other parties, and witnesses.
  • Negotiate and resolve cases before trial while maximizing outcomes for clients.
  • Prepare cases for a jury trial and take them from start to finish.

Qualifications:

Is This You?

Self-confident, Full of Initiative, and Driven to finish

  • You trust your gut, own your decisions (good, bad, or otherwise), and tackle new challenges head-on. You don’t wait to be told what to do—when you see a need, you get to work and see it through to the end. When you start a project, you bring it across the finish line every time.

Legal Knowledge Wizard

  • You keep current on criminal defense litigation, from statutes and case law. You know the Wyoming Rules of Criminal Procedure inside and out or at the very least can track down whatever you need to know in short order.

Ever-Learning Growth Mindset

  • New trial techniques? You’re all over it. You believe there’s always a fresh angle to master. You’re all about sharpening your skills and pushing yourself to new heights.

Battle-Tested

  • You bring litigation and trial experience to the table—and you’re ready for more.

Docket Boss

  • Deadlines aren’t just dates on a page— they’re your domain, and you manage them like a trail boss. You'll have support, but this is one of your most important responsibilities. Wield it well.

Communication Ace

  • Your research, writing, negotiation, and speaking skills cut straight to the core of a case, leading to best-case outcomes for clients

Tech-Savvy Problem Solver

  • AI, legal research, and case management tools—bring it on. You’ll figure it out and make it yours to ensure you're leveraging the best of tech to create a next-level experience for clients and co-workers alike

WY Bar-Ready

  • You’re admitted to the Wyoming bar—or you’re ready to jump through those hoops immediately to get up and running in the courtroom
