Remote Deep Sea Oil Rig information

What is a remote deep sea oil rig?

A remote deep sea oil rig is a large, specialized platform located far offshore, often in water depths of several hundred to several thousand meters, designed for extracting oil and natural gas beneath the ocean floor. These rigs are typically equipped with advanced technology and operate in challenging environments, often requiring crews to live and work on-site for extended periods. Remote deep sea oil rigs can be either floating or fixed structures, and they play a critical role in the global energy supply by accessing reserves that are unreachable from land or shallow water platforms.

What is the difference between Remote Deep Sea Oil Rig vs Offshore Oil Platform Worker?

AspectRemote Deep Sea Oil RigOffshore Oil Platform Worker
Work EnvironmentOperates on mobile or semi-permanent offshore rigs, often in deep sea locationsWorks on fixed offshore platforms, usually in shallower waters
CredentialsRequires certifications like H2S, BOSIET, and offshore safety trainingSimilar certifications, including safety and survival training
Industry UsageCommonly used in exploration and deep-sea drilling projectsPrimarily involved in production and maintenance activities

The main difference between Remote Deep Sea Oil Rig and Offshore Oil Platform Worker lies in their work environment and project focus. Remote Deep Sea Oil Rigs are mobile, often in deeper waters, requiring specialized certifications. Offshore Oil Platform Workers typically operate on fixed platforms in shallower waters, with overlapping safety credentials. Both roles are vital in the oil industry but differ in location and operational scope.

What are some common challenges faced by remote deep sea oil rig workers and how are they addressed?

Remote deep sea oil rig workers often face challenges such as extended periods away from home, harsh weather conditions, and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols. Teams typically work in rotating shifts to manage fatigue and maintain operational continuity. Comprehensive safety training, robust communication systems, and strong camaraderie among crew members help mitigate these challenges and ensure both physical and mental well-being while on the rig.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Deep Sea Oil Rig Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Deep Sea Oil Rig Worker, you need strong mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, safety training, and often a background in engineering or technical trades. Familiarity with drilling equipment, safety management systems, and certifications such as BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) are typically required. Effective teamwork, adaptability, and clear communication are crucial soft skills due to the remote and high-risk environment. These skills and qualifications ensure operational efficiency, safety, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies in challenging offshore conditions.

This is a remote opportunity based out of the Saint Louis area and work in hand. Due to contractual requirements, this position requires a security clearance or US Citizenship/ability to obtain a clearance.
This role is critical to designing and enabling maritime transportation capabilities that support global force projection, cargo movement, and sustainment operations. You will work within an Agile team to translate complex sealift operational requirements into scalable SAP TM solutions, ensuring alignment with mission needs, regulatory requirements, and system capabilities.
This position requires deep domain expertise in maritime logistics and SAP TM, along with the ability to influence solution design across transportation, supply chain, and financial domains.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the functional authority for SAP Transportation Management (TM) focused on ocean and sealift operations.

• Design and configure TM solutions supporting:

  • Ocean freight planning, booking, and execution
  • Vessel scheduling, routing, and capacity management
  • Multi-modal transportation scenarios integrating sea, land, and port operations
  • Freight cost management and settlement processes

• Align TM capabilities with complex maritime transportation requirements and mission constraints.

Strategic & Commercial Sealift Operations

• Apply deep knowledge of DoD DoW Strategic Sealift and commercial maritime logistics to system design and process optimization.
• Support planning and execution processes for:
  • Military cargo movement via sealift
  • Port operations, staging, and embarkation/debarkation
  • Coordination with commercial carriers and government-owned assets

• Ensure system solutions reflect real-world operational constraints, timelines, and mission priorities.

End-to-End Logistics Integration

• Lead integration between SAP TM and upstream/downstream systems, including:

  • SD (order management) for demand signals
  • EWM/Yard Logistics for port, staging, and warehouse coordination
  • FI/CO/FM for freight cost capture, billing, and financial tracking

• Ensure seamless data flow and process alignment across transportation planning, execution, and financial settlement.

Agile Delivery & Product Development

• Operate as a senior member of an Agile team, participating in:

  • Sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, and retrospectives

• Translate operational needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional designs.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize sealift and maritime transportation capabilities.

• Deliver iterative enhancements aligned with program milestones and mission objectives.

Requirements Analysis & Solution Design

• Conduct fit-gap analysis between current maritime operations and SAP TM capabilities.

• Develop functional specifications and configuration designs for scalable and compliant solutions.

• Recommend approaches that balance standard SAP functionality with specialized sealift requirements.

Testing, Validation & Deployment

• Lead and support functional and integration testing (SIT/UAT) for maritime transportation scenarios.

• Validate end-to-end flows including:

  • Cargo planning, vessel assignment, shipment execution, and tracking

• Support cutover planning, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.

Operational Optimization & Continuous Improvement

• Analyze sealift operations to identify efficiency improvements, cost optimization opportunities, and risk reduction strategies.

• Recommend and implement enhancements to improve visibility, planning accuracy, and execution performance.

Data Integrity, Visibility & Issue Resolution

• Ensure accuracy of transportation data, shipment status, and freight cost information.

• Support development and validation of operational dashboards and reporting.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, or related field
  • 8+ years of SAP functional experience, with deep specialization in SAP Transportation Management (TM)
  • Proven experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations, preferably in large, complex environments
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end transportation and logistics operations
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, influence stakeholders, and drive consensus across diverse teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
