Job description

IT Business Systems Analyst III

The Business Systems Analyst's role is to plan, design, and launch efficient finance and enterprise data systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data, translating financial and operational data requirements into data warehouse solutions, and documenting business processes and requirements. The Business Systems Analyst is also responsible for investigating application issues and generating and compiling reports based on the findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments, with a focus on data integrity, financial reporting accuracy, and data warehouse delivery.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Lead requirements and business process definition sessions with Finance stakeholders (Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, and Reporting); work with business leaders and decision makers to acquire approval for requirements and business process documentation related to financial data flows and reporting needs.
  • Create system design proposals and systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to data warehouse developers, BI engineers, and quality assurance staff. This includes data flow diagrams, dimensional models, and ETL/ELT pipeline specifications.
  • Lead application issue investigations, document probable causes and recommendations for resolution.
  • Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements, analysis and design efforts in order to define outcome criteria and measure-taking actions. Oversee small to medium data warehouse and finance systems implementation projects, ensuring alignment between IT data architecture and Finance business objectives.
  • Conduct research on data integration, BI, and financial systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts. Ability to drive software selection projects including data warehouse platforms, ETL tooling, and financial reporting solutions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Finance department and the IT Data Warehouse team, facilitating clear communication of business requirements, data definitions, and delivery priorities.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to define data models, dimensional schemas, and data governance standards that support Finance reporting and analytics needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive experience with one or more core software applications, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and/or Data Warehouse platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse, Databricks).
  • Extensive experience with business and technical requirements elicitation, business process modeling / mapping and data modeling - including dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), data lineage documentation, and data dictionary development in a Finance context.
  • Competency and practical knowledge of information presentation tools such as spreadsheets, flow charts, office productivity software, etc. Familiarity with BI and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and basic SQL proficiency for data validation and analysis.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Incumbent must have strong interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills to work in a high-profile environment requiring discretion, judgment, tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated success at managing multiple projects with tight deadlines to successful completion.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language in written and oral forms - specifically, the ability to translate complex data warehouse and ETL concepts into actionable business terms for Finance audiences, and vice versa. Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
  • 5+ years of experience required, with at least 2 years in a data warehouse, business intelligence, or finance systems environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial concepts including general ledger, chart of accounts, period-close processes, financial consolidation, budgeting/forecasting, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools and data pipeline concepts (e.g., dbt, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory) is a plus.

Pay Range: $74,772 - $125,184
