What is a remote Databricks data engineer?

A Remote Databricks Data Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and manages large-scale data processing systems using the Databricks platform, often working from a remote location. They focus on building data pipelines, integrating data sources, and optimizing workflows for analytics and machine learning, leveraging tools like Apache Spark within Databricks. These engineers collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and scalable for business needs. Remote roles offer flexibility in work location while still requiring strong communication and technical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Databricks data engineer?

Job description

Position Title: Databricks Data Engineer

Location: Remote

Duration: 12+ months with possible extension

Required skills:
Data Engineer & Databricks, BI Designer, Python, SQL skills

Our work is more focused on analysis, problem-solving, and requirement refinement than pure development. We're looking for someone who can bridge the gap between business and data, ask the right questions, and help uncover insights that may not be explicitly documented in the requirements.

We're looking for someone with strong analytical and business understanding skills, not just the ability to execute against documented requirements. Need to be a fast thinker and who can come up with solutions than problems - ask questions. Think outside the box.

The ideal candidate should be able to:

  • Understand the broader business process and how a solution fits into the end-to-end workflow.

  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or missing requirements through logical and theoretical analysis.

  • Analyze data and downstream impacts to better understand business needs and validate assumptions.

  • Challenge requirements constructively when the data or process suggests a different perspective.

  • Partner effectively with business stakeholders to refine requirements and drive the right solution.

Nice to have skills:

  • Strong Technical Skills with Snowflake & Databricks with Hands On Experience

  • Understanding of Data Modelling and Data architecture

  • Understanding on AWS

  • Strong SQL Background
