A Remote Database job involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing databases from a remote location. Professionals in this role handle data security, performance tuning, backups, and troubleshooting without being physically present at the organization's site. Remote database administrators (DBAs) and developers use cloud-based tools and VPNs to access and manage databases securely. This job requires expertise in database management systems (DBMS) like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB. It offers flexibility, but strong communication skills and reliable internet connectivity are essential for success.

What does a remote database do?

In a Remote Database position, your daily responsibilities often include monitoring database performance, running backups, managing user access, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing queries for efficiency. Collaboration with developers, IT support, and sometimes business analysts via virtual meetings and project management tools is common. This role requires proactive communication and strong documentation skills to ensure smooth workflows and maintain the reliability of critical data systems. By managing these key tasks, you help support an organization's digital infrastructure from anywhere.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a remote database?

Job description

Who We Are

Lawelawe is a Native Hawaiian Owned Small Disadvantaged Business (NHO SDB) that specializes in providing a range of services to federal government clients, including program management, digital solutions, human capital and training. Lawelawe leverages our NHO status to secure federal contracts that not only drive business success but also support our overall mission to uplift economically disadvantaged Native Hawaiian families and preserve the Native Hawaiian heritage.

You Are

A mission-driven Senior Database Analyst with deep technical expertise in Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) operations and IBM InfoSphere DataStage. You’re the type who doesn’t just keep data moving—you modernize pipelines, harden security, and ensure the Army’s HR data is accurate, protected, and decision-ready. As a key member of the HRC support team, you will lead the modernization of complex, high-volume data integration solutions that power high-level workforce decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end development, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise ETL processes using IBM InfoSphere DataStage to support HRC application structures.

  • Design complex data mapping and transformation logic to ensure data integrity across disparate sources within the Army’s data warehouse environment.

  • Provide expert-level database systems maintenance aligned to Cybersecurity and Information Assurance (IA) requirements, ensuring ETL compliance with strict security protocols.

  • Review and deliver technical solutions across the full development lifecycle—from ingestion through transformation and reporting.

  • Implement and manage advanced job scheduling/monitoring to ensure 24/7 reliability of ETL pipelines.

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation including data flow diagrams (Visio), mapping specifications, and system architecture briefs.

The Team

Lawelawe Defense Inc ("LDI") is an SBA Certified 8(a) Native Hawaiian Owned (NHO) SDB. Lawelawe Defense offers an outstanding record of delivery on various projects encompassing: Program and Portfolio Management; Systems Engineering and Architecture; Network Engineering and Operations; Data Center Optimization and Operations; Desktop/Server and Application Virtualization.

Requirements

  • Advanced, hands-on experience with IBM InfoSphere DataStage and strong knowledge of ETL best practices/patterns.

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL database environments, including SQL tuning and schema management.

  • Must hold DoDI 8570.01-M IAT Level III / Technical Level III certification.

  • Proven track record supporting data warehousing, XML/HTML, and open-source development environments.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex transformations for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a remote environment.

  • Active Secret clearance.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Additional Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related field with 10+ years of experience, OR BA/BS with 15 years of experience in lieu of a Master’s degree.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
