Work EnvironmentResearch labs, tech companies, academiaTech firms, manufacturing, software companies
Industry UsageScientific research, academia, tech innovationProduct development, systems engineering, software solutions

Remote Data Science Physics focuses on applying physics principles to data analysis and modeling, often in research or scientific contexts. Remote Data Science Engineering emphasizes developing data-driven products and systems within engineering and technology sectors. While both roles require data science skills, their industry applications and focus areas differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Science Physicist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Science Physicist, you need a strong background in physics, statistics, and mathematics, typically supported by a relevant degree (such as Physics or Data Science) and experience with data analysis. Proficiency with programming languages like Python or R, machine learning frameworks, and data visualization tools is essential, along with familiarity with cloud-based collaboration platforms. Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote work and interdisciplinary collaboration. These skills ensure accurate data-driven insights, effective teamwork, and successful project delivery in a remote environment.

How do remote data science physicists typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams despite working offsite?

Remote data science physicists often work closely with software engineers, domain scientists, and project managers through virtual collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and cloud-based platforms for data sharing and analysis. Regular online meetings, shared documentation, and version-controlled repositories (like GitHub) are essential for maintaining clear communication and workflow alignment. While remote work offers flexibility, it requires proactive communication and strong organizational skills to ensure seamless integration with the broader research or product development team.

What is a Remote Data Science Physics job?

A Remote Data Science Physics job involves using data science tools, such as statistical analysis, machine learning, and programming, to solve problems or analyze data related to physics, all while working from a remote location. Professionals in this field may work on projects like simulations, data modeling, or research for academic or industry settings. They apply their understanding of physics concepts alongside data science skills to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets. This role often requires proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, knowledge of data analysis techniques, and a strong foundation in physics.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Data Scientist based in Netherlands.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of an advanced AI-powered document intelligence platform that tackles complex, real-world data challenges. In this role, you will combine expertise in machine learning, generative AI, and scientific data analysis to transform unstructured documents into searchable, actionable knowledge. Working alongside multidisciplinary experts, you will design scalable AI solutions, develop production-ready ML pipelines, and leverage cloud technologies to deliver high-impact outcomes. The position offers significant technical ownership, exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and the chance to contribute to innovative projects at the intersection of AI and scientific research. If you thrive on solving challenging problems and building intelligent systems from the ground up, this role offers an outstanding opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and optimize advanced machine learning and deep learning models capable of extracting, interpreting, and structuring information from unstructured and scanned PDF documents, including complex scientific data.
  • Build and enhance Large Language Model (LLM) applications by leveraging vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques to enable semantic search and intelligent document discovery.
  • Own the full machine learning lifecycle, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization.
  • Apply domain expertise to convert complex scientific or chemical information into machine-readable representations that support advanced analytics and AI-driven insights.
  • Deploy scalable, secure, and production-ready AI solutions within AWS cloud environments while ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, data engineers, and subject matter experts to integrate AI models into production systems and align technical solutions with business objectives.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI, machine learning, and document intelligence technologies to improve platform capabilities and solution effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist delivering production-grade machine learning solutions.
  • Strong academic or professional background in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a closely related scientific discipline, with experience working with complex scientific data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services such as SageMaker, Lambda, S3, EC2, or similar technologies.
  • Practical experience developing applications with Large Language Models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, API integration, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Experience working with vector databases such as Pinecone, Milvus, Weaviate, Qdrant, or similar semantic search technologies.
  • Solid expertise with machine learning and deep learning frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or equivalent tools.
  • Previous experience with Computer Vision, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Document AI, or intelligent document processing solutions is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Availability to join immediately is preferred.
  • Comfortable working remotely within European Central Time (CET) hours.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position with collaboration across the European CET time zone.
  • Immediate opportunity to contribute to a high-impact, cutting-edge AI project.
  • Short-term B2B contract (approximately 2 months) with the potential to expand your professional network through innovative initiatives.
  • Opportunity to work with advanced technologies, including Generative AI, LLMs, vector databases, cloud-native AI solutions, and intelligent document processing.
  • Collaborative environment that values knowledge sharing, technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • High level of autonomy, ownership, and flexibility with a strong focus on delivering impactful outcomes.
  • Access to a community of experienced AI and machine learning professionals through collaborative projects, mentorship opportunities, and innovation initiatives.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful AI solutions that solve complex scientific and data-intensive challenges.
