Remote Data Science Astronomy information

What is a remote data science astronomy?

A Remote Data Science Astronomy job involves using data science techniques, such as statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization, to analyze astronomical data and solve problems in astronomy, all while working remotely. Professionals in this role process large datasets collected from telescopes or space missions to discover patterns, classify celestial objects, or make predictions about cosmic phenomena. This position typically requires strong programming skills, familiarity with astronomical datasets, and the ability to work independently from any location.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote data science astronomers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote data science astronomers often face challenges related to accessing large datasets, collaborating effectively with distributed teams, and staying updated with the latest research tools. Utilizing cloud-based platforms and secure data-sharing protocols can help manage big astronomical datasets efficiently. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication channels are essential to maintain strong team collaboration. Additionally, participating in online workshops or communities can help remote astronomers stay current with new analytical methods and industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data science astronomer?

To thrive as a Remote Data Science Astronomer, you need a strong background in astrophysics, statistics, and data analysis, typically supported by a degree in astronomy, physics, or a related field. Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or R, experience with astronomical data processing tools (e.g., Astropy, IRAF), and familiarity with machine learning libraries are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating remotely and interpreting complex data. These skills enable the accurate extraction of scientific insights from large datasets, drive research innovation, and ensure smooth coordination in distributed scientific teams.

Can I work remotely as a data scientist?

Remote data science roles, including those in astronomy, are common and often involve using tools like Python, R, and cloud platforms. These positions typically require strong analytical skills, communication, and the ability to collaborate virtually, making remote work feasible for qualified candidates.

What is the difference between Remote Data Science Astronomy vs Remote Data Science Astrophysics?

JOB SUMMARY

Corvus Consulting, LLC is seeking a Data Scientist to support advanced data analytics, machine learning development, and data integration efforts within Army Vantage and other Department of Defense (DoD) platforms. This role is primarily remote; however, candidates must be able to support mission requirements and collaborate with stakeholders across distributed teams, including occasional engagement with Army or government personnel as needed.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing data-driven solutions that enhance operational decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, mission-focused initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver scalable, secure, and impactful data science capabilities in support of national defense objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced data science solutions within Army Vantage and related DoD platforms
  • Build, deploy, and optimize machine learning models, including ensemble models, neural networks, and LLM-based solutions
  • Develop and integrate APIs and automated data pipelines across Army and vendor systems (e.g., AESMP, Army 365, DISA, NetOps tools, Splunk, First Alert)
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration efforts in compliance with Army and DoD standards
  • Design and optimize data architectures to support predictive analytics and visualization within Vantage environments
  • Analyze complex datasets to generate actionable insights for mission stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including military personnel and technical staff, to deliver data-driven solutions
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with DoD and Army policies, including secure data exchange via CDS
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in data science, preferably supporting government or military programs.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and modern data science frameworks.
  • Experience working within Palantir Foundry (Ontology, Data Marketplace) and Army Vantage environments.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience designing and integrating APIs within DoD or Army systems.
  • Familiarity with data architecture, infrastructure, and large-scale data pipeline development.
  • Understanding of DoD cloud environments (IL4, IL5, IL6) and secure data handling practices.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in cross-functional environments.
  • Active SECRET security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Army-specific systems and data platforms
  • Proven track record deploying machine learning models in operational environments
  • Experience with LLM vectorization, customization, and advanced analytics techniques
  • Certifications in data science, cloud computing, or related technical fields
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance requirements in DoD environments
