AppZen is seeking a motivated, customer-oriented attorney to join our legal team as Corporate Counsel, Commercial. You will be part of a fast-moving, collaborative team that touches all go-to-market aspects of AppZen. This role works closely with sales, marketing, operations, and finance to support the drafting, negotiation, and management of commercial contracts, primarily customer, reseller, vendor, and nondisclosure agreements in accordance with company policies and applicable law.

This is a great opportunity for an attorney looking to grow their in-house career in a high-growth SaaS environment. Strong candidates are solutions-oriented, eager to learn, and have some direct experience with software or cloud agreements.

Primary Duties:
  • Support the legal function in addressing the needs of a high-performing sales team, with opportunities to take on increasing ownership over time
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including SaaS, reseller, vendor, and NDA contracts
  • Leverage AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to increase efficiency and overall legal impact
  • Provide practical legal guidance on contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and risk management
  • Research and stay informed on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices affecting the business
  • Partner with sales and business development teams to move deals forward while managing legal risk
  • Contribute to a collaborative, solution-oriented team environment that balances sound legal judgment with business pragmatism
Requirements:
  • J.D. degree, admitted to practice and in good standing with the California bar
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in contract drafting and negotiation, ideally in a SaaS or technology context, in-house or law firm background welcome
  • Familiarity with privacy and data protection frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, or FINRA (direct experience a plus, not a requirement)
  • Exposure to federal and state commercial law, knowledge of UK or EU law is a bonus
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with both local and remote team members
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with some supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative working style
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting SaaS, cloud software, or technology companies.
  • Exposure to data privacy, procurement, intellectual property, or compliance matters.
  • Interest in legal operations, process improvement, and AI-enabled productivity tools.
$140,000 - $160,000 a year

The base pay range for this role is posted above. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.

The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
