Overview

Adastra is seeking a Data Product Owner with experience building data products from the ground up. This role will be accountable for how data products are developed and delivered, with a primary focus on supporting critical business and operational data domains. This includes ensuring end-to-end data pipelines are developed in a scalable, repeatable, and well-governed manner.

Initially, this role will focus on collaborating with cross-functional data professionals to migrate data from legacy environments into the organization's centralized enterprise data platform. Given the emphasis on data modernization and migration, additional high-priority data domains may also fall within the scope of this role. This leader will partner closely with stakeholders across Data & Analytics and key business functions throughout the organization.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in data, solid technical depth, excellent product and project management skills, outstanding communication and stakeholder management capabilities, and a passion for delivering tangible results in a dynamic environment. This Data Product Owner will connect strategic priorities and business requirements with an interdisciplinary team of data specialists, including data engineers, architects, and analysts, to prioritize and execute key deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to shape the Data & Analytics vision and roadmap and steer a cross-functional data team in delivering data products that support analytics and business intelligence
  • Become the subject matter expert for a key business domain and its integration with the organization's central data platform
  • Support strategic thinking on prioritizing data migration efforts from legacy environments into the enterprise data platform
  • Serve as a steward of critical operational and business data assets, maximizing their value to support business outcomes
  • Work in an Agile environment, continuously reviewing business needs, prioritizing and maintaining the backlog, refining roadmaps, planning sprints, and identifying opportunities and risks
  • Provide hands-on leadership by facilitating design sessions and driving decision-making while balancing short-term benefits with long-term strategic objectives
  • Support the cross-functional pod in clarifying requirements and features, including definitions of done (DoD) and acceptance criteria
  • Partner with engineering leaders to balance the delivery of business-driven features with foundational platform capabilities that drive scalability and resiliency
  • Build a culture of learning, knowledge sharing, and high performance. Assign tasks based on team members' skills, strengths, and development goals
  • Advocate for the highest standards of technical and operational excellence, ensuring scalable, repeatable, and well-governed solutions

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in a Product Owner, Delivery Lead, or Team Lead capacity
  • 5+ years of experience leading the development of data products, cloud data platforms, data lakes, or data warehouses
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful products that enable business and stakeholder use cases
  • Strong experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
