Data Platform Engineer

We're looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Data Platform Engineer to help build, maintain, and evolve our cloud-based data platform on AWS and Databricks. This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure who is interested in expanding into Data Engineering while supporting a modern data ecosystem.

You will work closely with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to maintain reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure, improve platform operations, and contribute to data pipeline development and platform tooling.
The interview process will include multiple rounds of virtual interviews. Candidates who advance to the final stage will be required to participate in an onsite interview at the San Diego Studio.

Responsibilities

Platform Administration & Cloud Infrastructure

  • Support administration of AWS services and Databricks environments.
  • Maintain platform configurations, access controls, and security best practices.
  • Assist with vendor and platform partner relationships.
  • Contribute to monitoring, troubleshooting, operational support, and reliability improvements.

Infrastructure & DevOps

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Improve environment provisioning and configuration management across development and production environments.
  • Support CI/CD workflows for infrastructure and platform deployments.
  • Implement and maintain operational best practices for cloud infrastructure.

Data Platform & Engineering Support

  • Support development and maintenance of data pipelines and integrations using Python, Spark, SQL, and AWS services such as API Gateway, EC2, DynamoDB, and Glue.
  • Assist with data quality validation, testing, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to support analytics, machine learning, and telemetry initiatives.
  • Contribute to platform tooling and process improvements that increase team productivity and reliability.

Cost & Operational Governance

  • Support cloud cost management through resource tagging, budgeting, usage monitoring, and optimization efforts.
  • Assist with rightsizing compute, storage, and workload configurations.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or related engineering roles.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services in production environments.
  • Experience working with Databricks.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and workflows, such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Familiarity with AWS Cost Management tools, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and related operational tooling.
  • Understanding of security fundamentals, including IAM/RBAC, least privilege access, network controls, encryption, and secrets management.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Interest in expanding into Data Engineering and supporting data-driven platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience with AWS data services such as Glue, Kinesis, or Lambda.
  • Exposure to Spark and distributed data processing.
  • Experience developing or supporting data pipelines and ETL workflows.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
