To thrive as a Remote Data Integration Developer, you need a strong background in database management, ETL processes, and programming languages like SQL, Python, or Java, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with data integration platforms (e.g., Informatica, Talend, MuleSoft), cloud services (AWS, Azure), and relevant certifications are typically required. AspectRemote Data Integration DeveloperData Engineer
Required CredentialsTypically requires SQL, ETL tools, and data integration certificationsRequires SQL, programming languages (Python, Java), and sometimes cloud certifications
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, focused on data pipelines and integration tasksOften remote or on-site, involved in building and maintaining data infrastructure
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in tech, finance, healthcare for data flow managementCommon in tech, finance, and large enterprises for data architecture

The Remote Data Integration Developer focuses on designing and implementing data pipelines and integrating data from various sources, often working with ETL tools. Data Engineers build and maintain the overall data infrastructure, including data warehouses and pipelines, requiring broader programming skills. Both roles are essential in data management but differ in scope and technical depth.

What are some common challenges Remote Data Integration Developers face when collaborating with distributed teams?

Remote Data Integration Developers often work with teams spread across different time zones and departments, which can present challenges in communication and project coordination. Ensuring data consistency and managing integration schedules require clear documentation and regular virtual meetings to stay aligned. Additionally, troubleshooting integration issues remotely may involve navigating various system environments without direct on-site access. Proactive communication and the use of collaborative tools help overcome these obstacles and support successful project delivery.

  • Provide ideation and awareness of industry-related emerging trends that drive existing and new product innovation.
  • Collect and prioritize bugs, feature requests, and improvement suggestions from clients.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and engineering teams to refine the backlog, define acceptance criteria, and track progress through release cycles.

  • Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of software implementation and integration projects (e.g., Lifia Portal and data integration projects).
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and deliverables using Agile and/or hybrid methodologies.
  • Track progress against milestones, manage risks and dependencies, and proactively communicate updates with clients and internal leadership to ensure alignment on scope, timeline, and delivery expectations.
  • Coordinate go-live readiness, testing activities, and transition to ongoing support.
  • Facilitate recurring project meetings, prepare progress reports, and communicate status with clients and leadership.
  • Maintain awareness of client missions (e.g., public health, government programs) and applicable regulatory requirements, ensuring all work is delivered in a compliant manner.

Business & Systems Analysis

  • Lead client discovery sessions with stakeholders and end-users to understand system goals, user workflows, business processes, and data requirements.
  • Understand and communicate system architecture, data integrations (APIs, HL7/FHIR), and hosting/security considerations.
  • Translate functional requirements into clear specifications for development and configuration teams.
  • Document current and future state processes, data flows, and system interfaces.
  • Validate that delivered solutions meet user needs through acceptance testing and user feedback sessions; and identify opportunities for system improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in technical project management, software implementation, customer support, or product delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and produce clear project documentation.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and MS Project.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of healthcare provider workflows, terminology and HIPAA compliance is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of system integrations, data standards (API, HL7/FHIR), and web application architectures.
  • Experience reviewing RFPs and contributing to proposals, is a plus.
