As a Billing Representative, you'll be responsible for medical hospital billing. Positions in this position ensure claim accuracy and work through specific billing discrepancies. Provide input to polices, system, methods and procedures for the effective management and control of billing functions. 

This position is full-time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm EST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

The Billing Representative will be required to successfully complete the UnitedHealth Group new hire training and demonstrate proficiency to continue in the role. We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be aligned with your schedule. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Submit primary and secondary claims
  • Resolve billing edits 
  • Provide input to polices, systems, methods, and procedures for billing functions. 
  • Ensure claim is accurate for processing
  • Demonstrate and maintain understanding of and comply with billing policies and procedures
  • Make and/or submit changes to claims when applicable 
  • Ability to correct bill various insurances
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret EOBS 
  • Follow up with insurance companies on denials 
  • Possess strong analytical and research skills  
  • Communicates with superiors, peers, employees, internal and external customers, and others, as appropriate, on a regular basis, assuring proper flow of information. 
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure continuous improvement in processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of medical billing experience
  • Ability using computer and Windows PC applications, which includes strong keyboard and navigation skills and ability to learn new computer programs
  • Experience with Microsoft Word (create correspondence and work within templates), Microsoft Excel (data entry, sort / filter, and work within tables) and Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar management)
  • Ability to work an 8-hour shift during our normal business hours of (7:00am - 5:00pm) EST 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in patient, client, or third-party insurance billing
  • 1+ year of hospital collections or billing experience 

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

  • Previous work experience in a fast-paced environment requiring strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changes.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $18 - $32 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
