WHO WE ARE:

Red Wine & Blue is a national community of over 600,000 diverse suburban women working together to defeat extremism, one friend at a time (The Washington Post got it right with this profile: ‘Blue’ suburban moms are mobilizing to counter conservatives). We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance & Compliance who will be responsible for the financial operations, compliance, payroll, and reporting functions across Red Wine & Blue. This role will own the day-to-day accounting and payroll and oversee regulatory and fund allocations, support executive leadership with financial reporting and strategic planning, and manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and benefits providers. 


WHO YOU ARE:  You are a detail-driven finance professional who thrives on bringing order and clarity to complex multi-entity financial operations. You have a track record of managing accounting and compliance functions independently, and you’re comfortable being the primary owner of your domain without a large team around you. You understand that precision is foundational to our ability to do this work at all, and you’re not afraid to use emerging technology to scale your workflow. But, above all, you believe in the mission of building a movement of suburban women fighting extremism, and you want your financial expertise to be in service of that fight.


This role does not currently manage any team member(s), and reports to the Chief People Officer. It is a full-time position that can be performed from anywhere in one of 14 current operating states (CA, CO, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA) and Washington, D.C. You must currently live in one of these states. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings and all-staff gatherings. 


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Financial Operations & Systems

  • Maintain Quickbooks Online for RWB’s family of independent entities, its including 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and Federal PAC
  • Manage all financial transactions: cash receipts, disbursements, and journal entries
  • Track donations, receipts, and pledges for financial reporting 
  • Manage cash flow, including forecasting and banking activity (ACH payments, fraud alerts)
  • Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions

Budgeting and Reporting

  • Lead organizational budgeting: development, realignment and variance tracking
  • Prepare financial statements and General P&L reports by class and location
  • Review and sync financial data and budgets between Ramp and QuickBooks Online
  • Reconcile and allocate credit card transactions and reimbursements in Ramp by account, location and class

Payroll & Tax Compliance  

  • Review and ensure accuracy of payroll filings process through BambooHR 
  • Manage state tax registrations and withholdings set up when hiring in new states 
  • Oversee workers’ compensation compliance, audits, and reporting 
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger, including journal entries and cost allocation by class/location
  • Ensure 1099 accuracy for contractors

Regulatory & Fund Compliance 

  • Oversee and conduct quarterly cost allocation and journal entry review, between three entities based on timesheets allocations ensuring proper execution of fund transfers and documentation
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel and Chief of Staff to track programmatic spending forecasts
  • Coordinate with outside compliance consultants as needed to prepare appropriate filings with federal, state, and local offices

Audit & Tax

  • Manage the annual 990 tax return 
  • Work with external auditors to manage biannual audit process 

Internal Controls & Systems

  • Develop and enforce financial policies, procurement policies and approval workflows
  • Own systems administration and access permissions for QuickBooks Online and Ramp

Employee Benefits 

  • Allocate and report benefits expenses
  • Support open enrollment and plan renewal from a budget/cost perspective

Strategic Planning Support 

  • Provide financial modeling and data to support leadership’s multi-year strategic planning

Fundraising & Grant Compliance

  • Ensure grant spending complies with restricted fund terms and reporting requirements
  • Provide revenue and pledge projections to support fundraising to leadership as needed
  • Prepare financial reports and documents for fundraising proposals and grant reports

Other Responsibilities

  • Support additional projects and duties as needed


WHAT YOU’VE GOT:

  • Education & Experience: You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA is a plus. 
    • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in finance/accounting ideally in non-profit, advocacy, or multi-entity environments
    • Experience with QuickBooks Online required: Ramp experience strongly preferred 
    • Working knowledge of payroll administration, multi-state payroll tax compliance and 1099 reporting 
    • Familiarity with 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), Federal PAC fund accounting and cost allocation strongly preferred 
  • Communications: You have strong communications skills and can explain complex financial concepts to laymen with ease. You have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. You operate with integrity and your friends would describe you as trustworthy and reliable.
  • Tech Savvy: You effortlessly leverage technology as a means to get work done quickly and efficiently. You easily adapt to new tools and platforms and love to learn the ins and outs of them.

  • Competitive Pay & Benefits: The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 and commensurate with related experience.
