Familiarity with cloud platforms (like AWS or Google Cloud), ETL tools, and version control systems (such as Git) is often required, and certifications in these areas can be beneficial. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for collaborating virtually and adapting to new challenges. These skills ensure you can effectively contribute to data projects, learn quickly in a remote environment, and support team goals in a rapidly evolving field.

What are common challenges faced by remote data engineering apprentices, and how can they be managed?

Remote data engineering apprentices often encounter challenges such as limited face-to-face mentorship, managing time zones, and ensuring strong communication with team members. Data Architect
The Opportunity:
For an organization to transform into today's digital world, it needs to properly collect, store, and organize its data. Effective data management can enable more efficient operations, yielding more growth. As a data architect, you know how to apply your creative-thinking and analytical mindset to help organizations manage their data assets. We're looking for an experienced data architect like you to deliver leading-edge solutions for the DoW.
As a Data Architect on our team, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of structured and unstructured data, transforming raw information into highly discoverable, governed, and usable assets. This role is critical for bridging data availability while maintaining strict compliance and security boundaries. You'll use your extensive technical expertise to design data architecture solutions for data architecture and modeling, data conditioning, data tagging, discovery, and cross-domain availability. You'll create, design, and implement data architecture solutions in collaboration with business analysts and technology teams to support current and future DoW and United States Air Force systems.
In this role, you'll grow your technical expertise, apply best practices and use tools like Apache NiFi, Airflow, Collibra, and Apache Atlas. You'll guide your team as it designs, defines, develops, and tests cloud solution components, and you'll serve as a liaison between our customers and developers to ensure that requirements are met and solutions are delivered.
With your drive to establish processes and lead technological innovation, you'll make a lasting impact on the Air Force and its mission partners.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience in data architecture or data engineering
  • Experience managing both relational databases (SQL) and non-relational systems such as NoSQL, Vector DBs, or Object Storage
  • Experience working with air-gapped systems, cross-domain solutions (CDS), or multi-level security (MLS) IT environments
  • Experience with modern data pipeline tools and data cataloging platforms
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Information Technology

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience designing robust data frameworks to ingest, process, and store massive structured and unstructured datasets
  • Experience cleaning, normalizing, and transforming raw data to ensure absolute quality, consistency, and readiness for analytics
  • Experience with cloud-based secure infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or Google
  • Experience with automated metadata extraction and AI-driven data tagging
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Information Technology
  • AWS, Microsoft, or Google Data Engineering Certifications
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Certifications
