Location: Remote (Must reside in MD, PA, WV, or VA)
Facility: Carroll Hospital – 291 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Position Summary:

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cancer Registry Data Specialist to join our remote Cancer Registry team. This position plays a critical role in capturing high-quality oncology data in compliance with state, national, and accreditation standards. Candidates must reside in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or Virginia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurately identify, collect, and abstract comprehensive cancer-related data using Cerner and/or Mosaiq.

  • Interpret pathology, radiology, treatment records, laboratory results, and other documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.

  • Ensure compliance with data collection standards from organizations such as:

    • American College of Surgeons (CoC)

    • NAACCR, AJCC, SEER, FORDS, ICD-O, WHO, and HIPAA.

  • Perform lifetime follow-up on cancer cases by contacting external hospitals and providers.

  • Conduct edits on abstracts and resolve errors.

  • Support the development of Survivorship Care Plans using CRStar and Journey Forward.

  • Assist in quarterly physician QA reviews and respond to external Requests for Information (RFIs).

  • Participate in planning cancer conferences and committee tasks as needed.

  • Collaborate with internal departments, external facilities, and providers in a professional and proactive manner.

Qualifications:
  • Experience as an Oncology Data Specialist is required.

  • Knowledge of cancer registry standards, including Maryland/National Cancer Reporting ActCoC Program Standards, and relevant coding/classification systems.

  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), preferably Cerner and Mosaiq.

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continued education and maintaining relevant credentials and certifications.
