Position Purpose:
Capstone Green Energy is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer to support the design and deployment of advanced power solutions for hyperscale data centers across the United States. This role focuses on integrating distributed energy resources, including microturbines, into mission-critical environments to enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in large-scale data center electrical systems and is passionate about innovative, low-emission energy solutions. Partnering closely with the engineering and commercial teams, the Data Center Electrical Engineer will drive the integration of Capstoneโ€™s cutting-edge microturbine technology into mission-critical power architectures, supporting Capstoneโ€™s continued growth in the hyperscale data center market.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Infrastructure Design
  • Design and support electrical infrastructure for hyperscale data centers, including medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Specify and coordinate switchgear, transformers, and grounding systems.
  • Design UPS systems and backup generation architecture.
Microturbine amp; Distributed Energy Integration
  • Integrate Capstone microturbine energy systems into data center environments for prime power and backup applications.
  • Design combined heat and power (CHP) configurations.
  • Develop grid-support and microgrid solutions.
Power System Studies
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, and arc flash analysis.
  • Conduct protection coordination studies.
Project Lifecycle Support
  • Support all project lifecycle phases: conceptual design, detailed engineering, commissioning, and startup.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners to develop resilient, scalable power architectures.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
Codes, Standards amp; Client Interface
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Interface with hyperscale clients (e.g., cloud providers) and EPC contractors.
Microgrid amp; Documentation
  • Assist with microgrid and distributed energy optimization strategies.
  • Maintain technical documentation including single-line diagrams and specifications.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5โ€“10+ years of experience in data center design, mission-critical facilities, or distributed energy / power generation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and distribution.
  • Experience with backup generation (diesel/gas) and UPS systems.
  • Familiarity with grid interconnection and paralleling systems.
  • Experience with engineering tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with U.S. electrical codes and standards.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with hyperscale data center operators (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of microgrids, CHP systems, and distributed energy resources (DERs).
  • Experience integrating low-carbon or alternative energy systems.
  • Familiarity with data center redundancy topologies (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1).

Compensation
  • Target Range for this role is between $140,000 - $200,000 Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.
