Job description

SUMMARY

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Manager - Infrastructure to lead the design, delivery, and reliability of enterprise infrastructure services across cloud, data centers, compute, storage, backup, and network. This role ensures stable and scalable platforms that support corporate operations and field job sites, enabling project execution, collaboration, and business continuity. The role executes infrastructure strategies, operational excellence, and modernization initiatives while managing a team of engineers/administrators and key vendors.

Location: Minneapolis, MN 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Infrastructure Leadership and Strategy

  • Execute on the infrastructure roadmap across cloud, server, network, storage, and data centers, aligned to business priorities and growth. The roadmap must drive efficiencies and value adds through innovation.
  • Establish infrastructure standards, reference architectures, and lifecycle plans (hardware, OS, network gear, cloud services).
  • Partner with Security, Applications, Data/AI and Business Leaders to ensure solutions are resilient, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Technical Operations

  • Manage cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS) including account/subscription governance, landing zones, connectivity, identity integration, cost management, and reliability.
  • Drive hybrid connectivity patterns (site-to-site, SD-WAN, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect equivalents if applicable).
  • Lead enterprise network operations including ZTNA, LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi, firewalls, segmentation, remote access, and DNS/DHCP.
  • Ensure connectivity solutions support construction environments: job trailers, temporary sites, remote crews, ruggedized networking, and rapid site mobilization. It includes buildout, teardown and support.
  • Manage network monitoring, performance, and incident response to meet uptime targets.
  • Manage server platforms (Windows/Linux), virtualization, and container foundations where used.
  • Lead storage services (SAN/NAS/object), backup/retention, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Define and test recovery plans; ensure RPO/RTO objectives are met and validated through regular exercises.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team (engineers and/or managed service partners).
  • Manage vendors and service providers: contracts, SLAs, performance reviews, escalation paths, and cost controls.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Service Desk, Field Technology, Data/AI, Application teams, and PMO.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive infrastructure experience across cloud, networking, servers, and data center operations.
  • 1+ year of people leadership experience including performance management and team development.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least two of the following domains: cloud platforms, enterprise networking/security, virtualization/compute, storage/backup, data center/colo operations.
  • Strong ITSM discipline with experience managing change control, incident response, and operational KPIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, contracts, and service delivery outcomes in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to translate technical risk and recommendations into business terms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and nontechnical teams to drive service outcomes, resolve issues, and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Active listener with openness to diverse ideas, feedback, and perspectives across organizational levels.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting distributed operations and remote/field environments
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator/Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
  • ITIL Foundation/Intermediate.
  • Experience with SD-WAN, SASE, zero trust network concepts, and modern endpoint/identity integrations.
  • Experience with automation/IaC (e.g., Terraform Ansible)
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools and capacity planning 
  • Familiarity with construction technology ecosystems (plan management, project controls, timekeeping, ERP) and their infrastructure needs.

The base pay range for this role is $129,000 - $193,600 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
