OVERVIEW:
SILTT is on the hunt for an innovative Mechanical Engineer with expertise in advanced data center cooling technologies, controls, and telecommunications systems. A DAY IN THE LIFE:
In this role, you will focus on providing technical expertise and engineering ingenuity towards a large array of challenges and innovations within the data center sector. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Spearhead the design and development of robust and efficient mechanical systems,encompassing HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), advanced cooling technologies, and comprehensive fire protection systems, specifically tailored to the unique and demanding requirements of data center environments.
  • Foster close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, IT specialists, and project managers, to seamlessly integrate mechanical solutions with electrical power distribution systems, network infrastructure, and other critical data center components.
  • Perform meticulous and in-depth calculations, simulations, and rigorous analyses to optimize the energy efficiency, performance, and sustainability of data center operations, while minimizing environmental impact and reducing operational costs.
  • Conduct regular and proactive assessments, predictive maintenance, and troubleshooting on critical mechanical equipment, including chillers, air handling units, and fire suppression systems, to ensure uninterrupted operation, maximum uptime, and peak performance of the data center facility.
  • Develop clear, concise, and comprehensive technical specifications, detailed reports, and documentation for all mechanical components, systems, and installations, adhering to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Play a key role in the development of long-term strategic plans for data center operations, maintenance, and upgrades, encompassing capacity planning, technology refreshes, and infrastructure improvements, and provide expert guidance and support during all phases of project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Support initial factory startup of equipment that is unfamiliar or new to market
  • Provide technical support for installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical equipment
  • Perform drawing package and submittal reviews
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME, etc.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative best practices in the rapidly evolving field of data center mechanical engineering, and proactively identify opportunities to leverage new advancements to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of data center infrastructure.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide guidance and support to junior engineers within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and knowledge sharing.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on data center solutions.
  • PE License - or willing to obtain.
  • Proven expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems within a data center environment
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
Strong knowledge of energy efficiency principles and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Availability to travel to project sites.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:
Partially remote. The work associated with this role is expected to be performed mostly in the office, though may be performed remote as required based on project needs. Some travel expected to meet with key suppliers, customers, assist with field installations and maintenance, and attend technical conferences.
