About the Role

The Payroll Manager will support Charlie Health's growing population of employees and contractors throughout the United States. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating a seamless, accurate, and timely payroll process, with a focus on improving accuracy and efficiency. Seated within our Accounting team, the Payroll Manager will establish processes to ensure regular auditing of all pay-related processes, including local / state / federal taxation, benefit withholding, retirement contributions and compliance, timekeeping, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing biweekly and bimonthly payroll and off-cycle payment processes for all employees and independent contractors
  • Oversee the continued development and maintenance of UKG Pro HRIS and Payroll system, ensuring that it meets the needs or the organization
  • Ensure all internal payroll procedures are compliant, accurate, and well-documented
  • Oversee the auditing and reconciliation of all payroll data, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies as they occur
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders – especially Finance, IT, People Ops, and our Care teams – to provide accurate reporting
  • Oversee and modify the timekeeping system to support ease of use, state and local requirements, and organizational objectives
  • Manage all pay-related SOPs, developing procedural documentation and supporting end-user training in partnership with our Learning team
  • Be the subject matter expert on a wide range of pay-related topics, including:
  • Payroll compliance in a multi-state, highly-distributed environment;
  • Wage garnishment
  • 401k best practices and reconciliations
  • UKG Workforce Management timekeeping
  • Support regular audits of payroll controls, processes, data, and operations
  • Manage and develop a Payroll Specialist

Requirements

  • At least 7+ years of in-depth payroll experience in a multi-state, multi-location environment, with at least 3+ years in a Manager role
  • Subject matter expertise regarding UKG Payroll and Workforce Management
  • Significant knowledge of multi-state payroll and tax considerations, especially Wage & Hour considerations for our remote, hourly workforce
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with time and attendance, payroll processing, year-end closing, audit, benefits administration and reconciliation, and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the desire to build a Payroll Function that partners closely with front-line employees and promotes clear, timely communications
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Experience with Workday and/or HCM implementation is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree

The total target base compensation for this role will be between $97,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. In addition to base compensation, this role offers a target performance-based bonus. The target total cash compensation range, including potential bonus, will be between $106,000 and $149,000 per year. Please note, pay will be determined on an individualized basis and will be impacted by location, experience, expertise, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Further, cash compensation is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may include stock options and other Charlie Health-sponsored benefits. #li-remote
