The Area Sales Manager plays a critical role in expanding SPAX® market share across Ohio’s professional construction channels. This position is responsible for developing new business, strengthening distribution partnerships, increasing contractor adoption, and growing SPAX’s presence within lumberyards, building material dealers, distributors, and professional construction markets.

Success in this role directly impacts revenue growth, customer relationships, brand awareness, and the long-term strength of the SPAX® brand throughout Ohio.

Your Role & Impact

As Area Sales Manager, you will own the growth, development, and execution of SPAX’s market strategy throughout Ohio.

You will:

  • Drive territory growth through new business development and expanded channel engagement
  • Build strong partnerships with lumberyards, building material dealers, distributors, and contractors
  • Increase product adoption through jobsite demonstrations, product training, and dealer engagement events
  • Expand SPAX® brand presence within independent lumberyards, STAFDA distributors, building product distributors, and professional contractor channels
  • Identify market opportunities and translate insights into actionable growth strategies
  • Strengthen SPAX® competitive positioning through product advocacy and customer engagement
  • Provide market intelligence to Sales Leadership, Marketing, Product Management, and Operations teams

Sales Growth & Channel Expansion

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing a territory growth strategy aligned with company sales objectives
  • Identifying and pursuing new dealer, distributor, and contractor opportunities
  • Growing sales and increasing product penetration across assigned markets
  • Strengthening stocking positions with dealers and distributors through relationship management and value-based selling
  • Converting contractors and end users through product demonstrations, training, and field engagement
  • Supporting distributor and dealer partners with sales enablement, product education, and field support
  • Building long-term relationships with owners, branch managers, outside sales representatives, and counter teams

Field Activation & Product Advocacy

As a SPAX® brand ambassador, you will:

  • Conduct jobsite demonstrations and product training sessions
  • Communicate product performance advantages and installation benefits
  • Support regional promotions, product launches, and marketing initiatives
  • Participate in trade shows, industry events, and contractor engagement activities
  • Create awareness and demand for SPAX® products within professional construction channels

Market Intelligence & Business Insight

You will help shape our growth strategy by:

  • Providing feedback on pricing, competitive activity, product needs, and market trends
  • Analyzing territory performance and identifying opportunities to improve market penetration
  • Sharing customer and market insights with cross-functional teams
  • Collaborating with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Operations to refine strategies and improve execution

Operational Discipline & Collaboration

You will:

  • Maintain accurate CRM data, including pipeline activity, customer engagement, and forecasting
  • Deliver regular updates on territory performance, growth initiatives, and market opportunities
  • Manage priorities independently while maintaining strong communication with internal teams

What We're Looking For

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of outside sales, territory management, market development, or business development experience
  • Proven success developing new business and growing existing accounts
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage a large geographic territory independently
  • Strong organizational skills with disciplined follow-up and execution
  • Experience using CRM systems for pipeline management and forecasting
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory
  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or GED required

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience selling building materials, construction products, fasteners, specialty building products, or industrial distribution products
  • Direct experience calling on independent lumberyards, building material dealers, STAFDA distributors, roofing distributors, or professional contractors
  • Demonstrated success growing sales through dealer and distributor networks
  • Experience developing relationships with owners, branch managers, purchasing teams, and outside sales teams
  • Existing relationships with Ohio lumberyards, building material dealers, building product distributors, or contractor networks are highly valued
  • Experience conducting product demonstrations, contractor training, or jobsite education
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred

Territory

This is a remote, field-based position covering the entire state of Ohio.

Candidates must reside within Ohio. Preference will be given to candidates located near:

  • Dayton
  • Cleveland/Akron
  • Cincinnati

This position requires regular travel throughout the territory, including jobsite visits, distributor branches, customer meetings, and industry events.

Travel expectations are approximately 60–75%.
