Job description

About Us:

YipitData is the leading market research and analytics firm for the disruptive economy and most recently raised $475M from The Carlyle Group at a valuation of over $1B. Every day, our proprietary technology analyzes billions of alternative data points to uncover actionable insights across sectors like software, AI, cloud, e-commerce, ridesharing, and payments.

Our data and research teams transform raw data into strategic intelligence, delivering accurate, timely, and deeply contextualized analysis that our customers-ranging from the world's top investment funds to Fortune 500 companies-depend on to drive high-stakes decisions. From sourcing and licensing novel datasets to rigorous analysis and expert narrative framing, our teams ensure clients get not just data, but clarity and confidence.

We operate globally with offices in the US, APAC, and India. Our award-winning, people-centric culture-recognized by Inc. as a Best Workplace for three consecutive years-emphasizes transparency, ownership, and continuous mastery.

What It's Like to Work at YipitData:

YipitData isn't a place for coasting-it's a launchpad for ambitious, impact-driven professionals.

From day one, you'll take the lead on meaningful work, accelerate your growth, and gain exposure that shapes careers.

Why Top Talent Chooses YipitData:

  • Ownership That Matters: You'll lead high-impact projects with real business outcomes
  • Rapid Growth: We compress years of learning into months
  • Merit Over Titles: Trust and responsibility are earned through execution, not tenure
  • Velocity with Purpose: We move fast, support each other, and aim high-always with purpose and intention

If your ambition is matched by your work ethic-and you're hungry for a place where growth, impact, and ownership are the norm-YipitData might be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

About Our Private Investor Business:

  • YipitData has an opportunity to revolutionize the private investor market by providing something that has never existed before - visibility into how any private company is really doing. While we're early in this market, we expect it could be even larger than the other categories in which we operate, with tens of thousands of private investors, service providers, and other customers who care about private company performance and have no high fidelity solution today.
  • We've built the first phase of the solution to this problem, based on data we've spent years aggregating; it's called Signals, and it helps our customers see how any private company is performing, leveraging numerous proprietary spend datasets, with more data on the way. Signals helps early stage investors find breakout companies just as they're starting to inflect, do early diligence on companies that already have scale to understand quality and durability of growth, and dive deep on entire categories and customer segments to see how the broader market is moving and how competition is evolving. We launched Signals coverage late last year with data on 250k+ AI and Software vendors, signed our first cohort of clients, and we're quickly scaling both the platform and the org.
  • The private investor org is a small and scrappy team operating inside a billion-dollar company, which means you get the best of both worlds: startup speed with enterprise resources. We ship fast, iterate constantly, and wear many hats. If you thrive in environments where you can see the direct impact of your work, move from idea to execution in days (not quarters), and want to help shape a product's trajectory from the ground floor, this is the place for you.

About The Role:

  • We are looking for a Head of Data, Private Investor to help define the future of our business unit by making our private-company insights the most trusted in the market. You'll own data methodology, quality, and ultimately accuracy, leading the work that gives investors confidence in how private AI & Software companies are truly performing.
  • The Private Investor product team is a small but scaling org within an org, building a product at a rapid pace; our Head of Data will be a leader who can take a nascent data product with high promise and build it into a market-leading source of truth. This means getting your hands dirty in the early days with a small team; digging into and redefining existing business logic that stitches together numerous first and third-party datasets, building on our benchmarking data to drive better accuracy, and as the function scales, hiring, mentoring, and managing a high-caliber team of data analysts. We are looking for a leader who is energized by both ends of that arc: someone senior enough to set strategy and build an org, but who still wants to spend time deep in the data and lead from the front.

This is a remote-friendly opportunity that can sit in NYC (where our headquarters is located), one of our office hubs, or anywhere else in the US. However, depending upon where the remote work is performed, income could be subject to New York State tax withholding.  We expect East Coast work hours.

As Our Head of Data, Private Investor, You Will:

  • Own trust of our AI & Software data end-to-end. This means you'll be the single accountable owner for data coverage and accuracy, determining where data quality (breadth, depth, accuracy, speed) is sufficient, where it's not, and then improving on these axes where we can based on the numerous data sources we have in-house.
  • Set data strategy and prioritization. Help determine which data sources and enrichment streams we should invest in, both internal and external. Optimize the accuracy / coverage / cost / complexity tradeoffs for investing in those datasets, and optimize business logic for how these sources will blend into our existing data assets. This will involve partnering closely with our partnerships, product, and data engineering teams.
  • Design and maintain a world-class QA system. Build truth data benchmark sets and a QA framework that ensure accuracy is continuously monitored and improved, first across thousands, later across hundreds of thousands, and eventually across millions of companies under coverage.
  • Scale the data function from 1 10. Start as a player-coach with a small team of a few analysts, then build a team and culture that fosters data excellence at scale.
  • Contribute to cutting-edge uses of AI in data. Partner with upstream AI and Data Engineering teams to drive scaled entity resolution via novel AI-tagging systems, ensuring source data accuracy is systematically improving.
  • Lead pipeline business logic design. Work hands-on with the data pipelines to author refactor specs, define panelization and outlier handling, reduce data lag, and help create maintainable pipelines and workflows that balance scale and coverage against downstream accuracy and depth.
  • Serve as the data authority for our private investor customers. Lead accuracy escalations and investigations, support sophisticated customer diligence, and translate data methodologies and outputs into digestible end-customer communication that builds trust.

You Are Likely To Succeed If:

  • 8+ years in data-intensive roles, with a track record owning data quality and methodology for a data product, ideally one used by investors or other highly analytical end customers.
  • Experience building and scaling a data function, growing a team from early stage to meaningful scale. You are a true player-coach, excited to do the work yourself, but equally able to build and develop new analysts to drive leverage.
  • Deep technical fluency and hands-on instincts. You write SQL, investigate data anomalies to root cause, and can design, pressure-test, or critique pipeline architecture. Importantly, you still enjoy getting close to the data.
  • Experience applying AI / LLMs to messy data problems, such as tagging, classification, entity resolution, or enrichment, with a practical understanding of how to evaluate, improve, and govern these systems.
  • A "fear the data" mentality. You're naturally skeptical of data quality and you know where quality standards need to be uncompromising, but you balance that with a bias for delivering to customers and can make the hard judgment calls of when the output is "good enough".
  • Strong prioritization instincts, with the judgment to weigh and make difficult tradeoff decisions across accuracy, cost, speed, and customer impact.
  • Clear communication skills. You can take ambiguous or amorphous data challenges and succinctly describe the root issues, then explain (written, verbal) what needs to be done next and why.
  • Comfort with customers, and a bonus if you have experience working with investor clients. You are comfortable engaging directly with end users and can handle sophisticated client conversations covering methodology and data trust.

What We Offer:

Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:

  • We care about your personal life, and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more!
  • Your growth at YipitData is determined by the impact that you are making, not by tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-improve, and master their skills in an environment focused on ownership, respect, and trust. See more on our high-impact, high-opportunity work environment above!
  • Base Salary + Performance-Based Bonus: The annual base salary range for this position is anticipated to be $230,000 - $250,000, with eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus of up to 15% base salary. Final compensation may be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal team benchmarks.
  • The compensation package also includes equity.

This role may be performed fully remotely within the United States. Please note that our US headquarters are located in NYC. If the remote work is performed outside of these offices, income may be subject to New York State tax withholding.

Please note that for this position, we are not able to consider candidates who currently or in the future will require visa sponsorship.

We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
