Job Responsibilities: What you will do
The management and resolution of complex and litigated transportation claims throughout the United States. This role requires an advanced expertise in liability and damage analysis coupled with a comprehensive understanding of litigation processes in both state and federal courts. Incumbents have up to $250,000 reserve authority; $250,000 settlement authority and $100,000 payment authority.

  • Authorize and/or approve all claims payments within the delegated authority or within the maximum limits as outlined in company policies and procedures.
  • Determine proper policy coverages and investigate, evaluate, negotiate and equitably settle all assigned claims cases.
  • Make decisions and resolve conflicts in such areas as application of coverages to submitted claims, application of laws of jurisdiction to investigatory facts, application of policy exclusions and exceptions as well as the ability to read and understand contracts, hold harmless and indemnity agreements.
  • Document and establish timely reserves and executes claims payments. Provide recommended action for all claims payments beyond delegated authority.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations with claimants, policy holders and/or their attorneys.
  • Manage and direct the litigation process through retention of counsel and experts to include setting appropriate expectations.
  • Identify and communicate specific claim trends and policy/contract issues to management.
  • Identify fraud and subrogation opportunities.
  • Prepare for and advocates at depositions, trials and mediations for the Company.
  • Collaborate regularly with defense counsel to strategies and formulate plans for defense.
  • May assist in the development, mentoring and/or training of individual team members.
  • Proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.

Qualifications: What you need to bring

  • 8+ years' complex claims experience required.
  • 2+ years' claims experience in transportation industry required.
  • Must be familiar with legal terminology and able to identify material items.
  • Must be flexible to be on-call on rotating basis throughout the year.
  • Must possess excellent investigative skills with the ability to achieve optimal conflict resolutions.
  • Must possess excellent negotiation skills and be able to appropriately influence and persuade others.
  • Must be able to analyze complex situations.
  • Must possess excellent fact finding skills with ability to gather detailed information.
  • Bachelors' degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Maintain state licensing where required.
  • Successful completion of claims certification schools/classes such as AIC, AEI, ARM, CPCU preferred.
