Description
Lead the advancement of cybersecurity innovation in the aviation domain. This role extends beyond traditional software engineering - you will serve as a technical leader shaping next-generation security strategies for the National Airspace System (NAS).
You will apply deep expertise in advanced cybersecurity concepts to design and deliver solutions across Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), post-quantum cryptography, confidential computing, zero trust, and cloud security. At the same time, you will act as a visible thought leader-publishing technical work, speaking at conferences, and influencing industry direction.
This role also requires strong awareness of the cybersecurity and aviation landscape, enabling you to identify emerging needs, propose innovative solutions, and help position the organization for future opportunities.
Concepts Beyond provides Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Aviation expertise to develop advanced Air Traffic Management concepts; develops cybersecurity solutions in PKI, post-quantum computing, zero trust & confidential computing; Develops AI/ML and cloud computing tools for Aviation Safety & Data Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
  • Hands-On Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain an operational enterprise PKI and security solutions using Java and other languages. Build integrations with technologies such as Bouncy Castle, ACME, ServiceNow, DocuSign, Keyfactor, and Ascertia, contributing across the full SDLC.
  • Thought Leadership & Innovation

Drive cutting-edge cybersecurity strategies and architectures across PKI, zero trust, confidential computing, PQC, IAM, and cloud security. Translate emerging research into practical aviation solutions.
  • Research & Solution Development

Analyze state-of-the-art technologies, collaborate with internal and external experts, and design forward-looking, mission-relevant security capabilities. Lead design and risk analysis of secure cloud architectures (AWS, Azure), including confidential computing strategies, identifying gaps and defining deployment approaches.
  • Industry Engagement & Outreach

Contribute to working groups and standards bodies, and represent the organization externally through publications, conference presentations, and panel participation.
  • Strategic Insight & Opportunity Identification

Stay current on government and industry activities to identify emerging trends, gaps, and innovation opportunities. Contribute ideas that support growth and new business opportunities.
  • Technical Leadership

Mentor team members and promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (PhD with relevant research may substitute for experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and/or cybersecurity with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Deep expertise in cybersecurity domains: PKI, IAM, cryptography (including PQC), confidential computing, zero trust, and cloud security.
  • Experience securing AWS and Azure environments (e.g., secrets management, access control, key management, network isolation).
  • Knowledge of database replication and failover mediation (MariaDB Galera Cluster).
  • Knowledge of security standards/frameworks (e.g., NIST, CA/Browser Forum).
  • Experience in Agile environments and across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Strong written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CISSP or equivalent certifications; advanced degrees in cybersecurity or related fields.
  • Experience with FedRAMP or regulated cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with CMMI and secure development practices.
  • Experience applying AI/ML in cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with certification processes such as CMMC and WebTrust.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership (publications, conference speaking, standards contributions).
  • Knowledge of FAA security processes and aviation systems (e.g., FAA Order 1370.121).
