What is a remote customer service trainee?

A Remote Customer Service Trainee is an entry-level employee who is learning the skills needed to assist customers through phone, email, chat, or other digital channels, while working from home or another remote location. Trainees undergo training to understand company policies, products, and customer service techniques. Their responsibilities typically include responding to customer inquiries, resolving basic issues, and escalating more complex problems to senior staff. The role is ideal for those looking to start a career in customer service with the flexibility of remote work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote customer service trainee?

To thrive as a Remote Customer Service Trainee, you need strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, helpdesk systems, and basic computer applications is typically required. Outstanding trainees demonstrate patience, active listening, and adaptability to handle diverse customer needs in a virtual environment. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering excellent customer experiences and maintaining company reputation in a remote work setting.

What are some common challenges faced by remote customer service trainees, and how can they be effectively managed?

  • Competitive salary

Licensed Insurance Customer Service Representative – Remote
Customer Retention Specialist | Jeff Sawyer State Farm
100% Remote | Full-Time

State Farm Experience Required | Fully Licensed
Jeff Sawyer State Farm is seeking an experienced State Farm professional to join our team in a 100% remote Customer Retention Specialist role.
This is a service-dominant position for someone who knows State Farm systems and processes, takes ownership of customer needs, and delivers an exceptional experience without requiring constant oversight. While service and retention are the primary focus, you must also be comfortable identifying opportunities within the existing book and confidently transitioning service conversations into appropriate sales.
Because this is a fully remote position, we are looking for a proven State Farm team member who can demonstrate both experience and performance.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Minimum of 1 year of State Farm agency experience
  • Active Property & Casualty license
  • Active Life & Health license
  • Experience servicing and retaining an existing State Farm book of business
  • Comfortable with in-book sales, cross-selling, and coverage reviews
  • Ability to provide a professional reference from a former State Farm agent or agency employer
  • Ability to work independently and remain productive in a fully remote environment
What You’ll Do
  • Manage service needs for existing customers, including policy changes, billing questions, renewals, coverage questions, and account updates.
  • Provide knowledgeable, timely support while creating a positive customer experience.
  • Conduct proactive customer outreach and policy reviews.
  • Identify coverage gaps and opportunities to better protect existing customers.
  • Pivot naturally from service conversations into needs-based in-book sales.
  • Cross-sell Auto, Home, Renters, Life, and other appropriate insurance products.
  • Support retention by resolving concerns and strengthening customer relationships.
  • Follow up consistently on outstanding customer needs and sales opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within agency systems.
  • Meet established expectations for service, retention, activity, and in-book production.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
You are customer-centric, dependable, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You understand how a State Farm agency operates and can step into a remote environment with the knowledge and discipline necessary to contribute quickly.
You lead with service but recognize that taking care of customers also means identifying gaps, recommending appropriate protection, and confidently asking for the business.
What We Offer
  • 100% remote work environment
  • Competitive compensation
  • Performance incentives and in-book sales opportunities
  • Established book of business to support
  • Collaborative agency team and leadership
  • Long-term opportunity for an experienced State Farm professional
If you are a fully licensed State Farm professional with at least one year of agency experience, a strong customer-service mindset, and the ability to produce while working remotely, we encourage you to apply.
Equal Opportunity Employer
Jeff Sawyer State Farm is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other status protected by applicable law.
This position is with a State Farm independent contractor agent, not with State Farm Insurance Companies.

This is a remote position.
