Remote Creo information

What is a Remote Creo?

A Remote Creo job involves using PTC Creo, a 3D CAD software, to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies while working remotely. Professionals in this role typically collaborate with engineering teams, create detailed models, and ensure designs meet technical requirements. These jobs are common in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. Remote Creo engineers must have strong CAD skills, an understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with remote teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Creo position?

To thrive as a Remote Creo (PTC Creo CAD Designer/Engineer working remotely), you should have strong skills in 3D CAD modeling, mechanical design principles, and a degree in engineering or a related technical field. Proficiency with PTC Creo software and familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems are often required, and relevant certifications can be advantageous. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These competencies ensure high-quality technical work, productive teamwork, and success in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced when working as a Remote Creo designer or engineer?

One frequent challenge for Remote Creo designers and engineers is maintaining clear communication with team members across different locations and time zones. Working remotely requires strong coordination to ensure project files are synced, version control is maintained, and design intent is fully understood without in-person meetings. Adapting to remote collaboration tools and staying proactive about feedback from colleagues and clients are essential for avoiding misunderstandings and production delays. However, those who are organized and embrace flexible communication methods tend to excel and provide high-quality design work from any location.

Job description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Lattice Tower Designer for our Pittsburg, PA office. The following locations will also be considered: Fort Mill, SC; and Overland Park, KS.  The successful candidate may work remotely from any mutually acceptable location within the United States.

Be involved in projects with our Tower Drafting Services Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

This Opportunity

Provides technical tower detailing, drafting and CADD support, guidance, and oversight to ensure the production of high-quality engineering designs and specifications for high-voltage transmission line, lattice steel tower, and utility infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include overseeing and generating detailed lattice tower structural models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, erection drawings, member detailing, connection detailing, bolt schedules, material bundle lists, and bill of material (BOM) packages for complex, multi-site transmission projects of moderate to large scale and complexity. Generates and validates accurate and concise design-phase deliverables, steel detailing packages, 2D and/or 3D CADD layouts, fabrication specifications, construction packages, and as-built documentation. Coordinates closely with transmission line engineers, structural engineers, and steel fabricators to ensure constructability, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable standards, including ASCE, AISC, NESC, and utility-specific design requirements. Ensures all deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for transmission line engineering, lattice tower design, structural accuracy, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), drafting excellence, safety, constructability, and functionality.

WSP brings global expertise in power delivery, power generation, and program management-anchored by the acquisition of POWER Engineers, Inc. TRC Companies have now joined WSP, deepening our power practice and expanding our energy advisory and intelligent grid services. We're partnering with clients to shape how energy systems evolve around the world-and we need your help.

Your Impact
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from, as-built drawings, structure loading analyses, engineering calculations, and technical specifications to support overhead transmission line, tower design, and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Utilize 2D and 3D CADD software, including, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bocad, and ProjectWise, while collaborating with engineers to resolve design discrepancies and prepare detailed, fabrication and construction packages for projects of moderate complexity and scope.
  • Apply industry standards and engineering principles to provide technical design support while ensuring proper fit, form, function, fabrication, constructability, maintainability, clearance requirements, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and material quantity calculations in accordance with NESC, IEEE, utility, and client design standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource regarding project progress, tower drafting methodologies, and problem resolution; may function as the primary Tower Detailing Specialist on projects or assist in coordinating drafting and design activities across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Verify the accuracy of detailing of lattice tower members and connections in conjunction with structure loading information, foundation layouts, design revisions, change orders, and engineering specifications while identifying and resolving design conflicts, constructability concerns, and technical issues associated with steel lattice towers.
  • Work independently or as part of a cross-functional team consisting of transmission line engineers, structural engineers, foundation engineers, project managers, and steel fabricators, while occasionally leading technical assignments involving transmission structure detailing and drafting.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, federal, utility, FERC, NERC, and environmental regulations, as well as client-specific standards and permitting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain multiple design alternatives and detailing solutions for review, including member orientation, member connections configurations, fabrication limitations, splice configuration, foundation connections, and constructability evaluations.
  • Monitor and oversee tower detailing, drafting, fabrication packages, erection plans, steel shop drawings, and QA/QC reviews to ensure quality control, constructability, and contract compliance while documenting project progress and technical issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineer-of-record, engineer-in-charge, structural engineers, transmission line engineers, and other technical professionals during project phases, design reviews, constructability assessments, and quality checks.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques and software tools to solve complex transmission structure and drafting challenges, modify existing tower designs, support tower upgrades, line rebuilds, reconductoring efforts, and asset replacement projects, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Interface periodically with utility clients, contractors, steel fabricators, and construction personnel to coordinate transmission structure detailing, fabrication schedules, and design support activities.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, fabrication reviews, constructability workshops, and field support discussions to address questions regarding tower drawings, steel member layouts, connection details, and construction sequencing.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and drafting personnel on Auto-CADD modeling, Bocad modeling, drawing standards, tower drafting practices, transmission line design principles, and QA/QC procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of tower detailing practices, transmission line engineering practices, utility standards, NESC requirements, emerging technologies, BIM workflows, digital delivery methods, and drafting/design software advancements.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct, safety requirements, quality standards, and project delivery expectations.
