The Engineering Practices team builds the golden paths, guardrails, and platform capabilities that every product engineering team at Mutual of Omaha depends on. As an Engineer IV on this team, you will operate at enterprise scope - designing, delivering, and operationalizing CI/CD platform capabilities, golden paths, deployment automation, templates, automated controls, and AI-assisted engineering patterns that enable secure, reliable software delivery and define how software is built, secured, and delivered across the enterprise. You are expected to lead through working code, reusable platform components, and direct coaching.

You are a seasoned DevSecOps practitioner - someone who has personally built and shipped pipeline native security, SBOM, and supply chain controls at enterprise scale, not just governed them from the outside.

  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.
  • Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Uses models as a starting point for designing and developing technologies that enable new, or enhance existing, Enterprise business capabilities.
  • Works quantitatively while contributing to Enterprise standards.
  • Understands how technology supports business partner / Mutual of Omaha business strategy. Recognized expert.
  • Emphasizes and leads the use of a disciplined process when creating and implementing designs and operates effectively as part of multiple teams or at the Enterprise level in doing so.
  • Collaborates with engineering leadership across the Enterprise to uncover pain points and formulate ways to accelerate delivery.
  • Translates business/user requirements into technical requirements and applies creative problem solving that brings these requirements to fruition for the Enterprise.
  • Promotes the Enterprise-wide use of frameworks and patterns to produce efficient code.
  • Can play multiple roles at an Enterprise Level (e.g. individual contributor, lead, teacher, mentor).
  • Uses, chooses, and mentors others in the use of tools and languages to apply processes systematically for the Enterprise.
  • Via professional societies, advances the development and validation of principles, standards, and best practices. Contributes to creating new, or updating existing, principles, standards and best practices. Span of influence is both inside and outside the organization.
  • Creates designs and design artifacts for the Enterprise. Mentors others in the creation and reuse of designs and design artifacts.
  • Evaluates options, performs tradeoff and cost benefit analyses at an Enterprise level.
  • Experiments with emerging technologies to understand how they will impact what comes next for the Enterprise.
  • Promotes the Enterprise-wide application of software engineering principles to infrastructure and operations problems with a focus on automation and self-healing.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Deep hands-on expertise designing and operating CI/CD pipelines at enterprise scale (GitHub Actions, JFrog Artifactory/Xray, SonarQube, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience building Internal Developer Portal capabilities. Software templates, scaffolders, catalog entities, plugins, or scorecards.
  • Track record building reusable platform components (composite actions, reusable workflows, shared libraries) that other teams consume at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, and pair with other engineers through Dojo-style engagements, communities of practice, internal guilds, or comparable programs.
  • Depth in software supply chain security: SBOMs, OSS license risk, artifact provenance, signing, secrets management.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language commonly used for platform tooling (TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or Java).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence engineering adoption across teams without direct authority.
  • Familiarity with both modern (cloud-native, containerized) and legacy application stacks.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives are valued, curiosity is encouraged, and continuous learning is embraced.
  • Prior experience operating at Staff or Principal engineer level.
  • Prior experience setting enterprise pattern for AI-assisted engineering. Build Copilot-aware templates, organization-level instructions, and reusable prompt libraries that make AI assistance productive, safe, and standardized across product engineering teams.
  • Ability to work remotely from within the United States or Puerto Rico with access to high-speed internet.
  •

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with platform engineering initiatives and modern developer experience programs.
  • Expertise with software supply chain frameworks, SLSA, artifact signing, or secure build systems.
  • Experience introducing AI-powered developer productivity capabilities at enterprise scale.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud, security, DevOps, or platform engineering disciplines.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.
