What is a remote creative outdoor?

A Remote Creative Outdoor job typically involves roles that combine creative tasks—such as writing, photography, videography, or design—with the flexibility to work from outdoor locations, rather than a traditional office. Professionals in this field might create content, manage social media, or develop campaigns while traveling or working outside. These jobs appeal to those who value creativity, autonomy, and a connection to nature. Common employers include outdoor brands, travel companies, and media outlets. The key is leveraging digital tools to collaborate and deliver work remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote creative outdoor professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Creative Director in the outdoor industry, you need a strong background in creative design, brand strategy, and a deep understanding of outdoor trends, typically supported by a degree in design, marketing, or a related field. Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, project management tools like Asana or Trello, and experience with digital collaboration platforms is essential. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you inspire teams and connect with outdoor audiences. These abilities ensure innovative campaigns, efficient teamwork, and effective brand storytelling in a competitive, remote working environment.

What does a typical day look like for a remote creative outdoor professional?

A typical day for a Remote Creative Outdoor professional involves planning, conceptualizing, and executing creative projects that are inspired by or take place in outdoor settings. This can include developing content, coordinating with clients and teams via virtual meetings, scouting or researching outdoor locations, and sometimes traveling to sites for on-location work. Collaboration is often done remotely with photographers, designers, marketers, or other creatives to ensure the vision is achieved. Balancing independent work with regular online check-ins is common, and strong self-management skills are valuable for success in this role.

Marketing Manager, Marine

Surfline\\Wavetrak, Inc.

Fort Lauderdale, FL • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Job description

Surfline\'s Marine business powers products trusted by boaters, offshore anglers, captains, mariners, and weather-dependent users around the world. Through brands including Buoyweather and FishTrack, we provide critical forecasting, oceanographic intelligence, and decision-making tools that help users plan, navigate, and succeed on the water.

We\'re seeking a Marketing Manager to lead marketing for our Marine brands as part of the Surfline Marketing team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, you\'ll serve as the dedicated marketing partner for the Marine business, working closely with the VP of Marine and cross-functional teams to drive awareness, engagement, subscriber growth, and long-term business success.

This is a broad, hands-on role for a marketer who enjoys wearing multiple hats. You\'ll develop go-to-market strategies, execute growth campaigns, support product launches, identify partnership opportunities, analyze performance, and help shape how our brands connect with customers. While you\'ll have access to shared marketing capabilities across Surfline - including creative, lifecycle, analytics, and content - you\'ll own marketing strategy and execution for the Marine business.

Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a full-time remote basis by candidates located in Florida.

What You\'ll Do

  • Serve as the dedicated marketing partner for the Marine business, aligning marketing initiatives with business priorities and growth objectives.
  • Use your expertise in the marine landscape - developing an even deeper understanding of boaters, offshore anglers, captains, mariners, and weather-dependent users to ensure every campaign, message, and initiative feels authentic and resonates with our audience.
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing plans that drive awareness, subscriber growth, engagement, and retention across Buoyweather and FishTrack.
  • Lead go-to-market strategy and execution for new product launches, features, and key initiatives, including messaging, positioning, customer communications, and promotional campaigns.
  • Plan and execute marketing campaigns across paid, owned, and earned channels, partnering with shared marketing functions including creative, lifecycle, content, and analytics.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, co-marketing initiatives, and community engagement that strengthen the Marine brands and expand our reach.
  • Monitor marketing and business performance, using data and customer insights to continuously test, optimize, and improve results.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marine, Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to deliver impactful customer experiences and measurable business outcomes.

What We\'re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in consumer, growth, or product marketing, ideally within digital products or subscription businesses.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Strong understanding of customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and lifecycle marketing principles.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using marketing and product analytics to guide decisions.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives with ownership and enjoys building new programs from the ground up.
  • Experience with consumer mobile apps or subscription products is preferred.
  • Passion for boating, fishing, sailing, surfing, or life on the water.

You May Also Have

  • Experience in boating, marine, weather, outdoor recreation, fishing, or adjacent enthusiast markets.
  • Familiarity with App Store Optimization (ASO), paid acquisition, CRM/lifecycle marketing, or partnership marketing.
