WestLand is seeking full-time Archaeology Field Directors for our growing western Cultural Resources teams. Our crews can be found working for a variety of clients throughout the West where we specialize in archaeological surveys, monitoring, archaeological testing, and data recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading teams in support of archaeological compliance projects across much of the western United States. For out-of-town work that includes overnight, or longer, duration stays, per diem and/or single-occupancy hotel rooms are provided. The successful candidate can be based out of our Reno, Nevada or Salt Lake City, Utah offices.

What will I be doing?

  • Leading and coordinating archaeological field work (field survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations).
  • Supervising field crews in their effort to record artifacts, features and other manifestations using GIS applications, map archaeological features and sites, draw scaled profiles and plans, and maintain paperwork, notes, and records.
  • Filing and scanning records and paperwork.
  • Completing record searches and archival research.
  • Writing technical cultural resources reports and site records.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • A Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. A Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field AND additional years of experience may substitute a Master's degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Colorado Plateau and/or Great Basin culture regions.
  • A minimum of two (2) year supervisory experience in the Great Basin and/or Colorado Plateau culture regions.
  • Previous experience writing technical archaeological reports.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in a variety of environments featuring extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel out of town for work throughout the West (paid drive time, per diem and hotel provided).
  • Preference will be given to those candidates that are permitted or permittable in Nevada, Idaho, and/or Utah.

The salary range for this position is $30.00 - $39.50 /hour.
