UPMC is hiring a full-time, remote Associate Software Engineer to join the Health Plan App Engineering team. The hiring manager is seeking a candidate with experience in software development and programming, database technologies and data management, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging.

Purpose:

Under the direction of management and senior team members, the Associate Software Engineer will contribute to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) by completing assigned projects and tasks while meeting established quality standards. The primary focus of this role is to develop a competent understanding of the technology stack and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions that support accurate member communication.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain software applications.

Test, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.

Build and maintain solutions that support business needs and maintain associated technical documentation.

Collaborate with business and technical teams.

Support production systems and deliver project work on time.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the member and provider communication processes utilized by the team for UPMC. This includes electronic and USPS based communications that support document composition, delivery, and output management functions.

Establish a comprehensive understanding of the Inspire platform, including Designer, Scaler, Interactive, and QAR/CMOD, to support document composition, output management, and communication delivery processes.

Demonstrate the ability to effectively leverage multiple data sources, including SQL Server, Oracle, and Snowflake, to support application functionality, data integration, and reporting requirements.

Proactively identify and recommend more effective and efficient methods for completing assigned tasks while maintaining quality and meeting business objectives.

Security - Demonstrate knowledge of secure coding practices and the ability to follow established security protocols and standards.

Troubleshooting - Demonstrate the ability to resolve basic issues and contribute to issue resolution efforts.

Quality - Follow established coding standards, participate in code reviews, and deliver high-quality, unit-tested code.

Design - Follow established design patterns, demonstrate awareness of user experience standards, and contribute to the

design and implementation of individual application components.

Integration - Develop and support less complex integration components within a module.

Documentation - Create and maintain basic technical documentation to support application development, system functionality, troubleshooting, and operational processes.

Project Management - Take ownership of assigned tasks by providing accurate estimates and delivering quality results on time.

Software Solutions - Develop, validate, and implement software solutions that align with customer requirements, enterprise architecture standards, and approved project designs.

Qualifications:

Typically has familiarity with the work through education or practical experience.

Experience with complex development environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas and formulating a detailed software deliverable Experience in developing on cross-functional systems.

Deep knowledge of programming.

Basic understanding of the SDLC.

Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations.

Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment Proficient in both oral and written communication.

Preferred:

Demonstrates a working knowledge of key technologies, including C#, Inspire, SQL Server, Oracle, and Snowflake.

Possess experience in software development and document composition using C# and Inspire in healthcare, financial services, or printing environments.

Utilize multiple data sources to create, manage, and deliver member communications across electronic and USPS delivery channels while supporting business and regulatory requirements.

Current or past UPMC employee or contractor.
