Job description

Managing Editor

Helium SEO is seeking a Managing Content Editor with strategic vision, editorial expertise, and leadership skills to oversee our content team and client deliverables. As a key member of a national, award-winning marketing agency, the ideal candidate will lead content operations while managing a team of writers. This role demands someone who can own team scheduling, conduct client discovery interviews, write and edit high-priority content, and actively develop writers who want to grow their careers.

This position can be in-office or remote, depending on location.

Role Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the content team's schedule -  assign work, balance bandwidth across accounts, and ensure all deliverables are tracked and delivered on time
  • Lead and mentor a team of writers, contractors, and assistant editors while establishing editorial standards and processes
  • Write and review high-priority or complex content deliverables, setting the quality bar through your own work
  • Conduct content interviews and discovery sessions with new and existing clients to capture brand voice, goals, and content direction
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex client content issues and manage communication with clients professionally and promptly
  • Oversee the development and execution of content strategies across all accounts
  • Champion the integration of Noble Content Lab and other AI tools in the content creation process
  • Direct the agency's internal content marketing strategy and content initiatives
  • Establish and monitor project timelines, implement tracking systems, and ensure efficient resource allocation
  • Stay current with evolving SEO best practices and serve as the ultimate authority on content-related SEO questions
  • Collaborate with SEO specialists to align content with technical requirements
  • Evaluate content performance metrics and implement improvements

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of professional editing experience, with at least 2 years in a management role
  • Experience in an agency environment working with multiple clients
  • Background in digital marketing, specifically content marketing
  • Demonstrated expertise in SEO content strategy and implementation
  • Enthusiasm for the integration of AI in content creation processes
  • Proven ability to write and edit high-quality content - you lead by example, not just by oversight
  • Experience leading client-facing discovery interviews and managing client relationships through escalations
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and developing creative teams
  • Excellent client communication and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience developing and implementing editorial guidelines
  • Effective communicator who can adapt to various audiences
  • Collaborative leader who empowers team members
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining a big-picture perspective
