What is a remote contract RN?

Remote Contract Registered Nurses (RNs) are licensed nursing professionals who provide healthcare services remotely, often via telehealth platforms. They work on a contract basis, which means they are hired for a specific period or project rather than as permanent employees. Their duties can include patient consultations, triage, care coordination, and health education, all performed virtually or over the phone. This role offers flexibility but requires strong communication and technical skills to deliver quality care from a distance.

What is the difference between Remote Contract Rn vs Remote Contract Lpn?

Remote Contract Rn and Remote Contract Lpn roles both involve telehealth services but differ mainly in required credentials and scope of practice. RNs typically handle more complex patient assessments and care planning, while LPNs focus on basic patient support and documentation. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find roles aligned with their qualifications and career goals.

How does a remote contract RN typically collaborate with on-site healthcare teams and physicians?

As a Remote Contract RN, collaboration with on-site teams is essential and usually accomplished through secure telehealth platforms, virtual meetings, and regular electronic communications. You may coordinate patient care plans, provide updates, and clarify orders directly with physicians and other healthcare staff. Strong communication skills and proficiency with digital health record systems are crucial for ensuring seamless teamwork and optimal patient outcomes. Remote RNs often attend virtual shift handovers and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions to stay aligned with overall patient care strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract RN?

To thrive as a Remote Contract RN, you need an active RN license, strong clinical judgment, and experience in case management or telehealth nursing. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure communication systems is typically required. Excellent time management, independent decision-making, and clear virtual communication are vital soft skills for success in a remote setting. These skills ensure effective patient care, regulatory compliance, and seamless collaboration without direct supervision.

Ascend Learning, a leading healthcare and learning technology company, is the connection between a powerful portfolio of brands serving students, educators, and employers with outcomes-based, data-driven solutions across the lifecycle of learning. From testing to certification, Ascend Learning products are used by physicians, emergency medical professionals, nurses, allied health professionals, certified personal trainers, financial advisors, skilled trades professionals and insurance brokers.
Headquartered in Burlington, MA, with additional office locations and hybrid and remote workers in cities across the U.S., Ascend Learning was recognized by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group as one of America's 2025 Greatest Workplaces as well as America's Best Places to work for Mental Well-Being for 2025.
We're always looking for talented, passionate professionals to join us in our mission to help change lives. If this sounds like an environment where you'd thrive, read on to learn more.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Product Solutions Consultant supports the successful implementation and adoption of StaffGarden Competency programs for healthcare clients, reporting to the Senior Product Solutions Consultant. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy - independently configuring programs, training end users, and driving client adoption - while partnering with senior consultants and Implementation Project Managers where needed. The work is delivered in a high-quality, high-touch model that creates a positive client experience and supports renewals.
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
This position offers the flexibility of remote work within the United States. Eastern or Central time zone preferred.
HOW YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME
  • Configure and build Competency programs in StaffGarden based on the agreed-upon program design, applying clinical knowledge to support best-practice structure and accurate platform setup.
  • Train end users and new organizations on how to use the StaffGarden Competency program, including ongoing maintenance, so clients can confidently own the program over the long term.
  • Support senior consultants and Account Managers in client design sessions and, occasionally, in Quarterly Business Reviews, contributing product and clinical context and helping clients adopt new features.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on Competency builds completed by the Support team, flagging issues and escalating complex design questions to senior consultants.
  • Capture client feedback during implementation and adoption, and relay it to senior consultants and the Product team to inform prioritization.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • 3+ years in acute care nursing and 1+ years nursing professional development required; active RN license strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing or supporting SaaS solutions for clients, ideally including complex or multi-faceted technology platforms preferred.
  • Experience in or adjacent to healthcare and nursing professional development settings is strongly preferred.
  • Working familiarity with the StaffGarden Competency platform preferred, or the ability to ramp quickly on a configurable SaaS product.
  • Solid understanding of competency strategy and use cases in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into language end users can understand.
  • A self-starter who operates with minimal direction - comfortable navigating ambiguity, independently researching and troubleshooting problems, and driving work forward without close oversight.
  • A clinical perspective that helps guide clients on competency design and best practice.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% for client training and engagement.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

HIRING RANGE
The current full-time annualized hiring range for this role is $82,400.00-$117,800.00 and does not include discretionary bonus or sales incentives, if applicable. In accordance with applicable state laws, we are providing the expected salary range for this position. Individual compensation will be determined by various factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, current business needs and local market factors. Most regular, full-time employees are eligible to participate in an Ascend incentive bonus or sales plan.
BENEFITS
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company paid Life Insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and parental leave
  • Employee assistance program
  • Other employee wellness programs such as Headspace and Airvet
  • Charitable matching program
