What is a remote content editor?

Remote Content Editors are professionals who review, revise, and improve written content for websites, blogs, social media, or other digital platforms while working from a location outside a traditional office. They ensure the content is clear, accurate, and engaging, and that it aligns with a brand's style and guidelines. Their responsibilities often include proofreading, fact-checking, editing for SEO, and collaborating with writers and other team members online. Working remotely allows them to manage their schedules flexibly and work with clients or companies worldwide.

What does a remote content editor do?

As a remote content editor, you work from home to develop, design, and implement content for a company. Your duties are to create, draft, proofread, and edit material before it goes for publication on a website. If the content is suitable, you can copy it and adjust it for different platforms. You also gather user feedback, analyze responses, and work to enhance what the organization produces. Your responsibilities require you to collaborate with graphic design and marketing departments. A remote content editor can either work for one company and manage things from home or be freelance and take on the jobs they want.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote content editor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Content Editor, you need strong writing, grammar, and editing skills, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), editing tools like Grammarly or Hemingway, and SEO best practices is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are key soft skills that distinguish top editors in remote environments. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent content delivery and smooth collaboration across distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote content editors and how can they be addressed?

Remote Content Editors often encounter challenges such as coordinating effectively with distributed teams, managing multiple deadlines across various time zones, and maintaining consistency in content quality without in-person oversight. To address these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication channels, set realistic expectations for turnaround times, and utilize collaborative tools for feedback and project tracking. Regular virtual check-ins and detailed editorial guidelines can also help ensure alignment and maintain high editorial standards.

Job description

Company Description

Publicis is an omni-channel communications agency with over 600 employees across our Canadian operations. The office is the largest in our industry in Canada and boasts talent across various disciplines of marketing and advertising expertise. Publicis carries a balanced split of Canadian, U.S. and Global clients for which we are Agency of Record.  Publicis supports a range of D&I actions through our Driving Change team as well as giving back to the community through a long-standing participation in the Out of the Cold Program. With a strong, active and familial culture, Pub United is the agency's social club, hosting events as wide reaching as Curling, Trivia Nights and more.

Overview

We're looking for a Motion Editor who really understands social.

Based in Toronto, you'll work for brands that want to show up in culture, not just post into the void. This isn't about maintaining calendars, it's about creating work people actually care about.

You'll help bring social-first ideas to life through editing, motion, design, storytelling, and platform-native craft. This role is for someone who knows how to turn footage, trends, creator assets, campaign ideas, and cultural moments into content people actually want to watch.

You'll work closely with creatives, strategists, account leads, producers, community managers, and creator partners to make work that moves fast without feeling disposable.

We're a growing agency, which means no passengers. You'll have real influence on how we work, what we make, and how we grow. If you like building as you go, you'll feel right at home.

And yes, this role is deeply plugged into culture. You're across platforms, creators, trends, and shifts in behavior before they hit the mainstream. More importantly, you know what's worth acting on, and what's just noise.

If you're excited by the idea of shaping standout work, building something meaningful, and leaving your mark on a fast-moving agency, we should talk.

Responsibilities
  • Edit and motion-design social-first content across always-on, campaigns, creator partnerships, pitches, and real-time cultural moments.
  • Turn raw footage, creator assets, campaign ideas, and social trends into clear, engaging stories built for platform behaviour.
  • Create short-form video, motion graphics, captions, supers, transitions, end cards, cutdowns, social adaptations, and presentation mocks.
  • Bring strong craft to pacing, sound, typography, layout, colour, visual hierarchy, and storytelling.
  • Partner closely with creative, strategy, account, production, media, community, and creator teams from brief through delivery.
  • Move quickly across multiple projects while maintaining accuracy, brand consistency, and high creative standards.
  • Adapt work across platforms and formats, understanding how content should shift for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging channels.
  • Identify social trends, editing styles, platform behaviours, and cultural moments that can inspire stronger creative work.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to support ideation, visual exploration, editing workflows, motion tests, storyboards, mockups, and production efficiencies.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in an agency, studio, content team, production company, or comparable creative environment.
  • A strong portfolio or reel showing social-first editing, motion design, storytelling, and platform-native content.
  • Strong working knowledge of Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and relevant creator tools such as CapCut.
  • Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging social platforms, including formats, trends, specs, and best practices.
  • Strong sense of pacing, rhythm, sound, typography, colour, composition, visual hierarchy, and short-form storytelling.
  • Ability to move between polished campaign work, fast-turn social content, creator-style edits, and trend-led formats.
  • Comfortable interpreting creative feedback, solving production challenges, and protecting the quality of the final output.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple edits, deadlines, feedback rounds, and deliverables.
  • Curiosity and working fluency with AI tools such as RunwayML, Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, or similar platforms is an asset.
  • A strong eye for internet culture, visual culture, creators, entertainment, memes, sports, emerging formats, and how technology is changing content.
  • Proudly accountable, collaborative, calm under pressure, and excited to make work people actually want to spend time with
