Job description

What we do and why we do it

As the leading end-to-end investment platform for single-family rental homes (SFR), our mission is to reinvent the rental housing ecosystem for the benefit of all. We successfully merge our passion for helping investors build wealth through real estate with cutting edge technology that transforms the way they do it.

How it's going (and growing)

With a talented team of 750+ Roofsters, our collaborative, can-do culture is what fuels our growth. In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in the Bay Area and New York City. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors). In 2025, Roofstock took an ownership stake in Casago (short-term rental management services), expanding our platform to support both long-term and short-term rental investment services.

About the team

The Construction Team at Mynd manages all property renovations and turn projects, completing over 600 projects nationwide each month. The team specializes in remote property management by leveraging a broad national vendor network alongside local team members in Mynd's active markets. They oversee project timelines, quality standards, and costs, ensuring every project executed on the Mynd platform meets company and client expectations.

About the role

The Construction Specialist is a key contributor within Mynd's centralized construction management platform, directly responsible for the successful execution of home turns and renovation projects. This role blends construction expertise with hands-on project ownership-scoping, pricing, and managing projects from inspection through completion.

Construction Specialists develop accurate scopes of work, validate pricing, and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure all work is completed within scope, budget, and timeline expectations. They act as both estimator and project controller, leveraging field data, vendor feedback, and inspection details to create clear, actionable project plans.

This position requires the ability to closely monitor high-volume, automated, and AI agent-assisted workflow processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and cost efficiency across multiple concurrent projects. The ideal candidate brings deep SFR turn and renovation experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to make precise remote decisions using video or photographic inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Review inspection data, contractor scopes, and budgets for accuracy, completeness, and cost competitiveness.
  • Develop detailed and actionable scopes of work aligned with Mynd construction standards and market pricing models.
  • Adjust, negotiate, and finalize project scopes and pricing with vendor partners to ensure work can be completed within underwritten budgets and SLAs.
  • Oversee active turn and renovation projects, monitoring progress through project management systems and field feedback to ensure timely, high-quality completion.
  • Analyze inspection videos and photos to make remote estimation and scoping decisions that maintain quality and cost control.
  • Communicate daily with local vendor partners and operations stakeholders, providing updates, clarifications, and timely responses to maintain project momentum.
  • Review and approve change order requests based on validated needs, cost reasonableness, and scope accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with Field Dispatchers, Regional Service Managers, Property Managers, Asset Managers, and Vendor Partners to maintain project transparency, ensure adherence to standards, and deliver high-quality results.
  • Support the acquisition and due diligence process by reviewing inspection results and reconciling variances between underwriting and final project scopes.
  • Provide field-level feedback on vendor performance, pricing trends, and material/labor variances to support continuous improvement and cost control initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of new turn and renovation standards, pricing libraries, and process improvements.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of project decisions, pricing adjustments, and contractor communications to ensure full accountability.
  • Support internal training, documentation, and knowledge sharing to improve team consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support Construction team goals and Mynd's mission.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in residential construction, renovation, or property management-preferably in single-family rental (SFR) turns and rehabs.
  • Strong ability to write, review, and negotiate detailed scopes of work and budgets.
  • Deep understanding of construction practices, pricing norms, inspection procedures, and building systems.
  • Ability to analyze video or photo-based inspections to develop remote scopes of work.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an emphasis on clear, proactive, and daily engagement with vendor partners and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget while maintaining rent-ready quality.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in construction or project management software (e.g., NavigateAI, SiteCapture, RenoWalk, BuilderTrend, Procore).
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently within a distributed team model.
