What is remote construction software?

Remote construction software refers to digital tools and platforms designed to help construction teams plan, manage, and collaborate on projects from different locations. These solutions typically offer features such as project scheduling, document management, real-time communication, and progress tracking. By using remote construction software, teams can work efficiently without being physically present at the construction site, which improves coordination, reduces errors, and saves time. Popular examples include Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Buildertrend.

How does working on a remote construction software team differ from traditional on-site construction roles in terms of collaboration and workflow?

Remote construction software teams frequently collaborate across multiple time zones and disciplines, making digital communication and project management tools essential. Unlike traditional on-site roles, much of the interaction happens through virtual meetings, shared platforms, and cloud-based document management. This environment requires strong self-motivation, proactive communication, and adaptability to evolving technologies. Team members often coordinate closely with architects, engineers, and construction managers to ensure digital solutions align with project needs and timelines.

Firestop Estimator - Construction - Base Salary to 130k/year - Houston, TX

  • Our client is a well-established specialty contractor providing firestop, fireproofing, insulation, and life-safety solutions for commercial and mission-critical construction projects. With decades of experience supporting complex facilities, the organization has built a reputation for technical expertise, safety, and long-term customer relationships. Continued growth across data center, healthcare, mission-critical, and commercial construction projects has created the need to expand the estimating team.
  • They are adding a Firestop Estimator to support a growing portfolio of projects across the country. This role is primarily focused on firestop estimating and is responsible for reviewing construction documents, performing detailed digital quantity takeoffs, identifying firestop scope requirements, selecting applicable firestop systems, and preparing accurate cost estimates and bid proposals. The Firestop Estimator will apply technical knowledge of fire-rated assemblies, penetrations, joint systems, and UL-listed systems to develop competitive and accurate estimates. This is a fully remote position available to candidates located anywhere in the United States, with Houston-area candidates especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural drawings and specifications to identify firestop scope requirements
  • Perform detailed digital quantity takeoffs and estimate labor, material, and equipment costs for firestop projects
  • Analyze project specifications, fire-rated assemblies, penetrations, joint systems, and related life-safety requirements
  • Interpret UL-listed systems and identify appropriate firestop solutions and system selections
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates, bid proposals, and scope documentation for commercial construction projects
  • Coordinate with project management, operations, and leadership teams throughout the preconstruction and estimating process
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from firestop manufacturers, suppliers, and other project resources
  • Maintain estimate documentation, quantity takeoff records, bid records, and supporting project information
  • Support value engineering, scope clarification, and firestop system selection efforts during preconstruction
  • Assist with engineering judgment (EJ) coordination and review when applicable to project scope
  • Support estimating process improvements and the implementation of new estimating technologies and workflows

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of estimating experience within firestop, fireproofing, specialty contracting, or related construction trades
  • Strong understanding of firestop systems, fire-rated assemblies, penetrations, joint systems, and UL listings
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and other construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience performing detailed digital quantity takeoffs for construction projects
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and other estimating software platforms
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 115k - 130k/year range
  • Fully remote work environment
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life and disability insurance
  • 401k with company match
