ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald's Southwest Ontario Service team is growing! We are seeking a motivated, collaborative and detail-oriented individual to join our growing team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to contribute, and grow, as part of a hard-working, enthusiastic and innovative team supporting service projects and operations across commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.

Working primarily within Black & McDonald's existing client base in the Greater Hamilton & Waterloo areas, the Junior Project Coordinator position is focused around supporting the service business through safety & quality assurance activities, reporting, document creation & management, estimating support, project support and client coordination. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks effectively.

General duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support Project Representatives, Operations Supervisors and Field Technicians in the planning, execution and successful completion of sold projects.
  • Assist with project scheduling, milestone tracking, budgeting, forecasting and progress reporting to ensure that project objectives, contract requirements, and company standards are met.
  • Consult with Project Representatives, Operations Supervisors, and Service Coordinators on upcoming maintenance and project work to ensure required resources, internally (peers, operations, manpower, field technicians, etc.) and externally (clients, suppliers, sub-contractors, consultants, authorities, etc.) are available.
  • Coordinate activities between field staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Assist with job opening (work order creation), purchase orders, shop drawings, insurance certificates, preparation of notice of project, form 1000's, and other authority or documentation requirements (e.g. ESA, TSSA, MoL)
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and document control systems, and assist with project closeout activities, equipment list updates, drawings/layouts and turnover documentation.
  • Work with Operations team on proactive recommendations for clients, and help prepare technician recommendation estimates (#4s) and client facing documents.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and service providers to obtain quotes, schedule repairs, and ensure work is completed to high standards.
  • Attend client/project sites as required to verify/execute work, liaise with clients/other divisions, support sales or client initiatives.
  • Responsible for solving problems and/or conflicts in a professional manner while maintaining open and timely communication with the client and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Promote and support a strong safety culture, while ensuring compliance with company health and safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Assemble safety boards, assist with safety plans & monitoring of related safety activity
  • Photo documentation & management.
  • Attend regular service, project & safety meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Post Secondary degree or diploma in any of the following or similar fields:

  • Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering
  • Engineering Technology, Construction Management or Energy Systems & Sustainability
  • Equivalent industry experience as a skilled tradesperson in HVAC/R, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 years' experience in a related field is an asset
  • Knowledge in HVAC/R, Combustion, Plumbing and Electrical Fields an asset

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Southwest Ontario Oakville (Halton) up to Orangeville, East of Woodstock, South to Niagara/Fort Erie
  • Driving in this region to get to/from relevant sites
  • Office desk/computer, meeting rooms, back shop, sea containers
  • Home remote working, computer

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • General knowledge of the built environment (building/facility/process) mechanical, heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, energy systems including related standards & good practice

  • Proficient knowledge & understanding of organization & time management ability to manage several activities concurrently often with tight timelines
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment

  • Valid Ontario G class drivers license and willing/able to travel throughout Southwestern Ontario

  • Able to obtain federal, provincial and/or local security clearances (such as a criminal background check)

The expected salary range for this role is between $55,000 and $65,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
