Department of Family Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Department of Family Medicine IT Director, the Senior Computer Specialist provides advanced technical support and day-to-day operational management of MEDEX Northwest's distributed technology environment. As the primary technology support resource dedicated to MEDEX Northwest, this position ensures reliable, secure, and responsive technology services that support physician assistant education, admissions, student services, accreditation activities, and administrative operations across multiple campuses.
Working closely with the IT Director, MEDEX leadership, faculty, staff, students, and campus partners, this position provides hands-on technical expertise while supporting classroom technology, endpoint management, cloud services, collaboration platforms, and enterprise technology systems that directly support one of the nation's premier physician assistant education programs.
Key Responsibilities
50% - Endpoint, Classroom & Collaboration Technology Support
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for endpoint devices, classroom technology, audiovisual systems, collaboration platforms, and end-user support across all MEDEX Northwest campuses.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise endpoint devices, classroom technologies, and collaboration tools while ensuring reliable technology services that support instructional, administrative, and program operations.

20% - IT Operations Coordination
  • Coordinate day-to-day IT operations across multiple campuses, maintain technology inventories, monitor operational performance, support technology initiatives, and ensure consistent service delivery that advances educational, admissions, accreditation, and administrative objectives.

15% - Documentation, Training & Knowledge Management
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, end-user resources, and technology training while promoting knowledge sharing and operational continuity.

5% - Systems Administration & Cloud Infrastructure Support
  • Support cloud services, networking infrastructure, endpoint security, backup services, system maintenance, and compliance with University technology and security standards.

5% - IT Asset & Procurement Coordination
  • Coordinate procurement activities, software licensing, equipment lifecycle management, and technology inventory in partnership with departmental leadership.

5% - Professional Development
  • Participate in professional development activities and apply emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve IT services and user experience.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Six (6) or more years of progressively responsible experience in IT support, systems administration, or a related field.

Additional Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or similar collaboration platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting environments with security and compliance requirements, including HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Demonstrated ability to create clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to handle confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi-site organizations.
  • Experience working in higher education or academic environments.
  • Familiarity with identity and access management systems, including Active Directory.
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell or Bash.
  • Experience using or evaluating AI tools and technologies to improve efficiency, automate tasks, or enhance IT support and service delivery.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party vendors or managed service providers.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in office, classroom, and remote support environments.
  • Must be able to lift and transport technology equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work is required to support events, maintenance activities, or urgent operational needs.
  • Occasional travel is required to MEDEX Northwest campuses, including Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Anchorage (University of Alaska Anchorage), and Kona (University of Hawai'i), with most travel planned in advance.
  • Must be able to respond to urgent technology issues and support critical systems when needed.

MEDEX Northwest is the University of Washington's nationally recognized Physician Assistant (PA) education program. Since 1969, MEDEX has prepared highly skilled physician assistants committed to improving access to healthcare, particularly in rural, underserved, and medically complex communities throughout the WWAMI region. The program operates across campuses in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Anchorage (Alaska), and Kona (Hawai'i), providing innovative distributed medical education in partnership with healthcare organizations and communities across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
As the Senior Computer Specialist, you'll play a key role in supporting faculty, staff, students, and leadership by delivering reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that enable educational excellence and support the continued success of one of the nation's premier PA education programs.
